Don't keep reading if you don't want this spoiled!!

The bit where susie goes into ruths body and makes love to ray really ruined it for me!!
I think it trivialized the story and gave it an edge I didnt like.

definitely a page turner but artless otherwise.

I really enjoyed it. Mainly for the family dynamics, which I thought were the interesting bits - ie what can happen to a family after a traumatic event. Maybe because there have been two child deaths in my extended family, and my own marriage breakdown and attempted mend made it feel very real. And I love a happy ending!

purpleduck · 30/09/2007 22:16

Liked the book, but not the ending

NappyChange · 01/10/2007 08:31

So many people thought it would be a good thing to read it after the death of my parents. Was rubbish. If people find it helpful then good for them but personally I didnt.

Botbot · 01/10/2007 08:35

I really didn't enjoy the book. I found it trite and lame. Agree with the OP about that bit, too.

auntyspan · 01/10/2007 09:28

The bit where Susie goes into Ruths body just made me think of that scene from Ghost, where Sam's spirit is absorbed into Whoopi Goldberg's body.

I thought the book was really beautiful - almost spiritually written - which made that particular part of the book quite shocking, for me anyway.

If you see what I mean!

auntyspan · 01/10/2007 09:30

Actually, thinking about it, it was the idea of the book that I found quite spiritually uplifting.... rather than the writing....

casbie · 01/10/2007 09:44

hated it.

half of the book was about a traumatic incident and the second some kind of teenage fantasy book.

really bad.

much prefer the 'time traveller's wife', well written, and intelligent story!

BritTex · 03/10/2007 22:57

Very disappointed !

corblimeycharlie · 03/10/2007 23:02

IIRC I thought the way the murderer was dealt with was most unsatisfying. I think it was written (not very well) with teenagers rather than adult readers in mind.

80sMum · 03/10/2007 23:32

I thought it was dreadful.

ScottishMummy · 03/10/2007 23:43

dreadful poorly witten poorly explored durdge- rubbish shoddy read

onelittlelion · 03/10/2007 23:57

Time Travellers Wife is my favourite book!

Read this ages ago and thought it was ok for an easy read. Read something similar soon after something like of "The Life and Death Charlie st Cloude" which I enjoyed too and on a similar vein and an easy read.

Avadawnsmum · 21/10/2007 23:26

I found it stifling really- Sebold just seemed to want to Nanny the story and reassure the reader tooo much- which made it avoid its ramifications.

Mmm - Time Travellers Wife is definately up there in my favourite books of all time, Neffenegger weaves a brilliant web that keeps you completely hooked. I've read it about 10 times
