I've recently started re-reading books I read as a child and teenager, having a fantastic time doing it so thought I'd share, would love to hear your books! As you will see there is a strong Enid Blyton theme....

Famous Five (but not all of them)
Malory Towers
Faraway Tree
Goodnight Mr Tom
Black Beauty (who was this by?)
the Little HOuse on the Prairie series
Nancy Drew

Something called.."My side of the mountain".. Can't remember the author so can't find it again
A book (IN Afrikaans) called Pretend land (Kammaland)...I must have read it 10 times when I was about 8 or 9....and once again don't remember author so can't find again.

This is making me sad....

Greensleeves, I've just ordered Carbonel and Gobbolino for Christmas. for the dds, obviously , but I'm looking forward to meeting Carbonel again.

The Earthsea Trilogy is fantastic, thanks for reminding me Fireflytoo.

The Family from One End Street

Fireflytoo · 16/11/2007 21:56

Hildegard ..have you read the last one...The other wind.? If possible even better than the earthsea ones. She also wrote some other more adult books which i really love

The city of illusions
Four ways to forgiveness
And a few other series which I cannot now remember.

Does anyone else like Anne McCaffrey ..especially the dragon books?

splishsplosh · 17/11/2007 09:35

Greensleeves, I loved the Silver Crown, and Wrinkle in Time - though I tried some others by Madeleie L'Engle, and was disappointed in them.

I tried reading Carbonel to my niece who's just turned 6, but she didn't get into it...I was looking forward to reading it again, so I might keep trying. After all, when I was little, the only book her mum would ever read to me was Miffy at the Zoo. Endlessly!

We still have A wrinkle in time somewhere, but isn't it a bit old for 6-7 year olds? I read it when I was quite a lot older than that.

SoupDragon · 18/11/2007 11:02

So many of the titles on this thread I've read, loved and forgotten about!

Maidamess · 18/11/2007 11:10

Has anyone mentioned The Ramona Quimby books, by Beverly Cleary? (Sorry I havent got the will to read all the posts!)

Nothing summed up being an eight year old girl more for me than these books. I still read them, they make me feel all cosy.

wineaholic · 21/11/2007 15:40

Haven't read all the posts, saw the one that mentioned sweet valley high, forgot how much I loved it when I was younger! I loved the "Anne of Green Gables" books. Got a couple off Amazon recently and re read them and still love them.

Great thread!

wineaholic · 21/11/2007 15:44

mamasin · 22/11/2007 13:43
