Jackie Collins!!! Great for firing myself up when libido is low.

It’s only this year that I’ve realised how comforting I find embarrassing authors when I’m really really stressed and have gone through the entire works of EL James, Stephanie Meyer and am currently working my way through the Trebizon school series.

I seem to be regressing.

My kindle recommendations are an embarrassment, the house is a tip, and I caught a woman sitting next to me reading the smut on my kindle the other day on the tube. She had a judgey look on her face but her eyes were still moving rapidly over the page.

Is the latest Marian Keyes - Grown ups - worth trying? It’s a long time since I have enjoyed her books, but this one looks good “on paper”.

EllenRoss · 16/02/2020 19:56

I’ve just tried a new author called Ellie Simms. Her book is Phoenix and it’s just come out. Its smutty and I must admit I blushed at a few of the scenes.

Lee Child 😳

Stravapalava · 17/02/2020 00:20

Jodi Picoult

Mandasue Heller, I read them in one sitting. Blush
Thank goodness that we have machines in the library, so I can't be judged.
although I suspect the machine might judge me

Dean Koontz. Good reads, a bit different, but not that well regarded, apparently.
Jodi Taylor's St Mary's series. Just discovered these, a bit formulaic, not deep, but great fun.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 17/02/2020 19:23

Laurell K. Hamilton. Vampire/werebeast/necromancy, with eyewatering hyperviolence and teethgrinding sex scenes. Also I flatly refuse to believe a woman that short could conceal a two foot blade down her back.

Sunshinelollipops1 · 17/02/2020 19:26

@BeardedMum reading Grown Ups at the moment. It’s really good - highly recommend.

labazsisgoingmad · 18/02/2020 14:25

Catherine Cookson was the first grown up books i read i also used to like the Jilly Cooper books not rivals etc but the ones she wrote before ie Imogen i know was one they were all girls names
those aside maybe Maeve Binchy and mills and boon

squashyhat · 18/02/2020 14:38

Rosamund Pilcher. She's dead now - apparently her son kept writing in the same style which seems a bit odd. But the originals are lovely and undemanding.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 18/02/2020 14:41

Deborah Harkness - love the Discovery of Witches trilogy. Am definitely too old for witch/vampire sex drama but I love it. Thank goodness for kindles!

peanutbuttermarmite · 18/02/2020 14:44

Yes love Deborah Harkess too - I’m too old for vampires too I expect!

rc22 · 18/02/2020 20:01

I like Marian Keyes and Sophie Kinnell. Also partial to Jane Green, Jane Fallon and Adele Parks.

rc22 · 18/02/2020 20:02

Kinsella that should have said

MiniCooperLover · 18/02/2020 20:12

Stephanie Laurens! All based in royalty/ton times from 1800s onwards. A bit formulaic but often have a good mystery in the middle of the story and unsurprisingly they all have outstanding sex 😂
