TheSandman · 14/09/2019 02:14

Puckoon by Spike Milligan

Charlie Booker's Screen Burn

Ayoade on Ayoade: a cinematic odyssey by Richard Ayoade in which Richard Ayoade interviews himself.

Any of Mark Kermode's books

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 14/09/2019 07:21

A spot of bother-Mark Haddon
Catch 22- Joseph Heller

Both had me in tears laughing, although Catch 22 is pretty tragic in places too

FenellaMaxwell · 14/09/2019 07:29

Second the James Herriot books, and the audiobooks of them on audible are even better - all read by Christopher Timothy.

Dear Lupin, by Charles and Roger Mortimer is rather lovely, and funny. It’s a publication of the letters between them whilst Charles is at boarding school.

milliefiori · 14/09/2019 07:34

I always laugh at Garrison Keillor's novels - Lake Woebegone and Radio Romance. It's the dry asides and the characterisation that make me giggle.

leckford · 14/09/2019 07:37

Scoop, Evelyn Waugh. Quite an old one but very funny

isabellerossignol · 14/09/2019 07:41

Three Men in a Boat is very funny. Not laughing out loud funny, but gently amusing.

Three Men in a Boat is very funny. Not laughing out loud funny, but gently amusing.

The tin of pineapple episode is pretty laugh out loud.

and Catch 22 is definitely on the list as one of the all time funny 'but yet should I be laughing at this? books of all time.

Nat6999 · 14/09/2019 11:43

Adrian Mole, really most of Sue Townsend's books, especially The Queen & I.
Notes from a small island by Bill Bryson, I couldn't put it down, I loved it.
A year in provence by Peter Mayle & the sequel Tujours Provence, I loved these books, the author had a wonderful way of writing about such a gentle subject, his characters were so real.

Clawdy · 14/09/2019 14:30

Diary Of A Nobody by George and Weedon Grossmith is the only book I've read that had me giggling aloud as I read it. Written so many years ago, with a hapless Victorian David Brent type narrator, it is hilarious.

Kaz2200 · 14/09/2019 14:38

Any recomendations on kindle unlimited?

TheCanterburyWhales · 14/09/2019 14:44

The Year of Living Danishly is on unlimited and pretty funny in places.

Kaz2200 · 14/09/2019 14:49

Thanks I've downloaded that one.

Lagatha · 14/09/2019 15:40

@Clawdy I love that book
Especially the food bill at the party and the enamel paint

Livpool · 14/09/2019 15:44

Camberwell Beauty by Jenny Eclair. Very funny, and very cleverly written.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 15/09/2019 22:51

I think Paul O'Grady's autobiographies are hilarious, as is Peter Kay's The Sound of Laughter. Possibly the funniest book I've ever read though is Men at Arms by Terry Pratchett.

stevenshannah268 · 17/09/2019 10:33

The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson. Grin This book had me laughing all the way to the end!

UpbeatDolores · 21/09/2019 12:17

This is an odd, old one. Don't know where I picked it up. It had two short novelettes
The Pursuit of Love; and Love in a Cold Climate by Nancy Mitford.
I laughed out loud at many of the events in the eccentric family, having come from a large eccentric family myself. Although, not aristocratic I hasten to add.
And you know what, I reckon Anna Burns (booker prize winner with "Milkman') has read this, and even taken a tad of inspiration. The young sisters.... check it out and see what I mean.

dementedma · 21/09/2019 12:29

Recommend a fairly obscure one called "On the origins of Findo Gask". Made me weep with laughter!

Manicpixiedreambitch · 21/09/2019 12:37

Three Men in a Boat

1wokeuplikethis · 21/09/2019 12:38

Danny Wallace Join Me, hilarious!

JoySuckClub · 21/09/2019 12:42

2nd nomination for This is going to hurt...just finished it.
For some reason it didn't click with me with a kindle sample but I got it in paperback last week and devoured it.
