dh says he would

we are new to harry potter (dd2 obsessed, it passed dd1 by)

I really dont fancy hufflepuff htough

Lucycat · 16/07/2007 14:22

would they have a choice?

gawd could you imagine if you let the sorting hat choose form groups - truly the group of death.

and can you imagine their names?

MintyDixCharrington · 16/07/2007 14:23

no
it is the goldman sachs of hogwarts
tell dh to wash his mouth out with soap

IdrisTheDragon · 16/07/2007 14:23

You woudln't really get a choice would you - but probably if your child did get into slytherin then you would be happy with it I think as you would be likely to be a slytherin type anyway.

I think.

Blandmum · 16/07/2007 14:24

Or would you home ed ?

I think that they are all home edded prior to going to Hogwarts.

I tease our kids that dh and I went to hogwarts (they filmed part of it where we went to uni). I tell the kids that dh was a Hufflepuff!

You wouldnt have a choice tbh would you. And if you got picked for Slytherine I get the feeling you would in fact be that way inclined and have no objections to the house whatsoever.

PotatoOfDoom · 16/07/2007 14:25

Yes, because a) someone has to be and b) nowt wrong with a bit of pure evil in your life

bwahahahahahahahahahahahah

ahem

Enid · 16/07/2007 14:27

dh and I were quite gripped by the first film and book

then we saw some of Film 4 - goblet of fire - lst night

was pantsola

dd2 and us loved the grandeur of hogwarts - goblet of fire is like bev hills 901202002

tell me the books are better

TheDuchessDeMimsyNorkington · 16/07/2007 14:30

If a parent disagreed with the Sorting Hat could they go to appeal?

I think my DCs would be in different houses. DD1 is very kind but also brave and a sports queen so Hufflepuff or Gryffindor for her. DS1 is really clever, Ravenclaw me thinks. DD2 is a selfish and deviously clever monster who would definitely be requiring green robes.

stealthsquiggle · 16/07/2007 14:32

Loving the concept of parental sorting-hat appeals.

I think that is the beauty of the Hogwarts system, in fact - the decision of the sorting hat is final. No appeals. Saves a lot of heart-ache!

DANCESwithDumbledore · 16/07/2007 14:34

Books are a billion, zillion times better Enid. Can't emphasise that enough!

Blandmum · 16/07/2007 14:34

The books are, IMHO, much better.

Film 5 is the best of the films

Yes certainly. Should very much enjoy parents evenings with Snape.

geekgirl · 16/07/2007 14:45

dd1 prime candidate for hufflepuff

ThisIsDavinaPleaseDoNotSwear · 16/07/2007 14:46

omg, I have a certain 'thing' about Snape

Is it just me?

DumbledoresGirl · 16/07/2007 14:50

Mine would be in the one for brainy kids.

Ravenclaw isn't it?

If it were me, I would be in the house for big-heads!

shinysink · 16/07/2007 14:57

Only if they got me a night with Lucius Malfoy as played by Jason Isaacs.

Tortington · 16/07/2007 14:58

pesonally i think the cupboard under the stairs was sufficint

Wisteria · 16/07/2007 15:02

My Mum, grandma and me all fancied Alan Rickman, maybe this madness runs in families. Mum sadly passed on now so can't comment but I have a real thing for both Snape and Jason Isaacs, does that make me evil????

Bouncingturtle · 16/07/2007 15:09

I too have a thing for Alan Rickman... I think it's the sneer

saltireslytherin · 16/07/2007 15:18

What exactly is wrong with Slytherin?.

shinyhappytonks · 16/07/2007 15:45

I really like Snape too. I think its his brooding piercing eyes that i just lurve

Wisteria · 16/07/2007 16:32

It's the voice for me -

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 16/07/2007 16:36

i would not allow my kids to go to hogwarts.

a) no anti-bullying policy
b)dubious members of staff
c)no appeals from group sorting
d) no evidence of pastoral care

Wisteria · 16/07/2007 16:38

basically just an old fashioned boarding school ....
