yeah it is sad but it also ensures that enough people are around that would try to stop it evey happening again.

[hmm another series perhaps

whompingwillowinthedewmeadow · 03/08/2007 17:30

the bravest man Ive ever known {sob sob} I still well up when I think of that line. Poor Snape - he was such a bully and horrible character too, but such a tragic life. Never valued or loved until he had passed on. After a while Im going to reread them all and look for evidence of Snapes heroism.

MrsWeasley · 03/08/2007 18:28

Even if he was a right git

rosmerta · 03/08/2007 19:37

lol MrsW

Lets see if we can remember any good moments of Snape's

In PS he's trying to stop Quirrell throwing Harry of his broom

Er...... that can't be it surely?

janeitebus · 03/08/2007 22:58

In book 6 he prevents Harry from casting unforgiveable spells.

In book 5 (I think, haven't checked but it's in the film) he won't give Umbridge any Viritaserum to use on Harry.

MrsWeasley · 03/08/2007 23:45

he was still a git though

janeitebus · 03/08/2007 23:56

lol -
dd2 keeps going around repeating "yessssssssss" "obbbbbviouslyyyyyy" to any questions that she feels are beneath her, after the lovely Alan in the film. Snape may well be a git but you've got to love that voice! And he didn't mean to hurt George, so try not to hold that against him!

whompingwillowinthedewmeadow · 04/08/2007 08:18

lol mrsW

tigerschick · 04/08/2007 08:35

LOL MrsW!
I think he was battling the whole time between his love for Lily and his dislike of Harry - who was too much like his father for Snape's liking. He was never intended to be likeable it was supposed to be a twist and I guess, if you are in the "intended audience" (ie a child ) then it would be a complete surprise.

BandofMothers · 04/08/2007 08:35

He gave fake Veritaserum in the book. Probably on DD's orders.
After all there was a lot she must not know that Harry could have told her.

fawkeoff · 04/08/2007 08:53

yeah i cam understand snapes role in the book..............not every teacher was suposed to think the sun shone out of harrys backside, and snape MADE himself dislike harry by thinking he was like james, because he couldnt bring himself to love the lily in him because it hurt too much.I do feel sory for snape in a way, but on the other hand i dont iyswim

MrsWeasley · 04/08/2007 12:37

we all do the "Yessssssss" "Obbbbbbbviously" in this house too
My DS has just asked if we can see the film again for he 3rd time! Oh well if I must

MrsWeasley · 04/08/2007 12:38

can you tell I dont like snape, I try to hide it LOL

whompingwillowinthedewmeadow · 04/08/2007 12:58

you know, Im not a massive fan of teh films and we hardly ever go to the cinema, but Im dying to see it now just to appreciate Alan (whom I love from "Truly Madly Deeply") I want to say "Obviousssly" as well

rosmerta · 04/08/2007 14:40

yeessssss, love Alan Rickman too!

MrsWeasley · 04/08/2007 19:35

i dont like him much obbbviousssllyy

whompingwillowinthedewmeadow · 05/08/2007 21:36

???Question????

If Teddy was born when he was born and the last chapter is 19 years later, then he is 19. Right?? So what is he still doing at Hogwarts?

tigerschick · 05/08/2007 21:39

He's not at Hogwarts. He went to King's Cross to see Victoire off - and to snog her

whompingwillowinthedewmeadow · 05/08/2007 21:48

ah!! I see

tigerschick · 05/08/2007 21:51

Haven't got my book here so can't tell you the exact quote
It makes you wonder how old Victoire is ... I suppose she could be in the last year so that would make her 17, going on 18.
Gosh, I hope that JKR does do an encyclopedia, it'll make all this sort of thing much easier!

rosmerta · 06/08/2007 09:32

yeah but then we won't be able to speculate which is lots and lots of fun!

Oh dear, you can tell I don't get out much can't you

MrsWeasley · 06/08/2007 11:52

you and me both Rosmerta

yeah I agree teddy is 19 and seeing off his slightly younger sweetheart. ahh young love (I assume that once bill and fleur had their house to themselves again they were back to acting like newlyweds do! )

One thing I wonder about is why the first years are nervous about going onto the platform (I get the impression its more than just nerves about starting school) surely they have been on the platform to wave off brothers and sisters before (as Ginny did and Harry and Ginny's youngest childen are doing in the epilogue)

tigerschick · 06/08/2007 11:57

I was wondering that too, MrsW. I guess it's just to emphasise the whole new school nervousness thing.

tigerschick · 06/08/2007 11:57

Also - there is no mention of Bill or Fleur being at the station to see Victoire off. I wonder how she got there??

MrsWeasley · 06/08/2007 12:03

perhaps they were chatting and she slipped away for a quiet goodbye she could hardly do that with mum and dad watching

Or they were seeing to younger children because JKR did say that Victoire was the eldest of B&F's children.
