Tattooist of Auchswitz

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 19/03/2019 23:18

The Children Act - Ian McEwan

AlecOrAlonzo · 19/03/2019 23:24

The Burgess Boys by Elizabeth Strout. Everything I've read of hers is excellent. For a book group I would recommend Anything is Possible. There's heaps to discuss.

tastylancs · 19/03/2019 23:24

Dear Mrs Bird. Wonderful.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 19/03/2019 23:37

My name is Lucy Barton. I'm also reading Amy & Isabelle by Elizabeth Strout who wrote Olive Kitteridge...wonderful books, I love her writing.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 19/03/2019 23:43

I can't stand Me Before You, I found it really boring. I'm halfway through the Goldfinch and I'm enjoying it
I've also just read a few by Lisa Jewell which I also liked.

BlackPrism · 20/03/2019 00:00

The black prism - fucking mind blowing, heart rending fantasy novel series

37KAT · 20/03/2019 07:19

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I'll have a look at them.

Educated - Tara Westover
Time and Time again - Ben Elton
Tangerine - Christine Mangan

Really enjoyed these 3 recently - Amazon reviews for Tangerine aren’t particularly good 3.5 stars but I personally thoroughly enjoyed it.

Pinkruler · 20/03/2019 20:26

American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld. Really good- a fictionalised account of Laura Bush's life.

ASnowballsChance · 20/03/2019 21:35

Little fires everywhere - excellent read.

Blankpaper · 20/03/2019 22:11

Where the Crawdads Sing

Really enjoyed this one. I can see it being a great bookclub read

37KAT · 20/03/2019 22:18

Thanks so much, my reading list has now grown!

The white queen
The red queen
The white princess

All by Phillipa Gregory - about war of roses, great if you like historical stuff.

Gentlemanwiththistledownhair · 21/03/2019 10:09

Little by Edmund Carey

Gentlemanwiththistledownhair · 21/03/2019 10:16

Sorry, posted too soon!

I enjoyed the writing style and how, even though the French Revolution happens around the central character, it's merely in the background, in a way that events are when you're only in the periphery. The author wasn't tempted to put her in the middle which I thought was great.

The characters are odd, in the best way. And the illustrations are lovely!

TheWanderingMinstrel · 21/03/2019 17:25

Mike Gayle, The Man I Think I Know. Very very powerful. Uses humor (appropriately) despite being a deep subject.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 21/03/2019 17:27

I very much enjoyed Old Baggage by Lissa Evans

SherlockSays · 21/03/2019 17:30

This is going to hurt - Adam Kay. It's brilliant.

Currently reading The language of kindness by Christie Watson

tripfiction · 21/03/2019 19:42

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, set in North Carolina. It was a Reese Witherspoon Book Club choice September 2018 (incidentally a good place to find new reads)

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I've ordered quite a few of them.
Just to let you know I decided on 'My Name Is Lucy Barton'
It arrived this morning. I think the group will be pleased as it's less than 200 pages. We've just read Labyrinth by Kate Moss which was 700!

I’ve just read Cannery Row, which I thought was brilliant.

HeavenlyEyes · 21/03/2019 21:53

The War That Saved My Life - is for young readers, but don't let that put you off.
