Thanks Judas. Yes, I saw Everest but it didn't affect me the way reading Into Thin Air did. Also read Into the Wild which was pretty compelling. Remember doing quite a bit of research on McCandless after that. I'll add The Climb to my list, thank you

Another vote for "The Tattooist of Auschwitz ". I couldn't put it down. Cried my eyes out at the end.

My Sister the Serial Killer

Some great suggestions here. My collection of downloaded samples on Kindle grows ever larger.

Don't know if that link will work but^^ it's The World I Fell Out Of by Melanie Reid related to her Spinal Column in the Times.

So gripping and beautifully written. I'd been feeling a bit sorry for myself due to recent events and this totally shook me out of my self-absorption. She's inspirational.

As Andrew Marr says on the cover reading this will change you. It really does.

Donald Ray Pollack....The Heavenly Table. Southern Gothic

CalamityJune · 13/04/2019 12:02

Little Fires Everywhere- Celeste Ng. Really interesting and good characters.

All the Light We Cannot See- Antony Doerr. I don't usually like books set in wartime but I read the last half of this book in one day. Gripping.

The Heart's Invisible Furies- John Boyne. So beautiful, funny. Very readable. Best book I have read in a long time.

I'm currently reading The Taxidermist's Daughter by Kate Mosse. I gave up on Labyrinth but this one is only around 400 pages so if I like it I'll try again.

Also have my first John Le Carre lined up, which will be my first spy novel.

DeadWife · 13/04/2019 12:24

FooFighters I'm very envious of you reading Grapes of Wrath for the first time. how did you find it? It's stayed with me for years and I should probably have a reread. I loved East of Eden also but Grapes for me is the best of Steinbeck.

Pinkarsedfly · 13/04/2019 12:31

I loved Standard Deviation.

IamEarthymama · 14/04/2019 22:24

Unsheltered
