Something along the lines of a Song of Ice and Fire, or the Dark Tower series, or Bird Box. Something with strong female characters that aren't just wishy washy wank fodder! Something well written!

NK Jemisin's The Fifth Season (book 1 of a trilogy)

Reading Wool and I'm absolutely hooked! Especially as the Kindle Unlimited version is done like a graphic novel with pictures, etc. Looking forward to reading all the others as well.

There's a spin off story set in the same world but by a different author which is good too
