Just came across this. It is fun, but quite scary. Am too embarrassed to reveal my own score here! Don't know if the link will work, and would be grateful if someone more knowledgeable than me could amend it. Thanks

112 - but what a weird list. 1000 books and almost the only "children's" book on it is Le Petit Prince? Weird. Hated that book anyway.

Nightynight · 11/06/2007 22:09

a lot of those books I chose not to read, because they didnt appeal. eg the Paulo Coehlos - they just make me want the sick bucket.
so I dont believe the list.

Botbot · 12/06/2007 09:04

Paolo Cuehlo books are just rubbish - they're books for people who don't like books, in my opinion. Read The Alchemist for a book group once and didn't even turn up to the group because I couldn't bear the idea of talking about it. I almost put it in the recycling rather than the charity shop bag because I didn't want anyone else to have to read it!

NoodleStroodle · 12/06/2007 09:09

Almost want to read the Alchemist now to find out why it's so awful!

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 12/06/2007 10:04

I really liked the Alchemist and I love books.

Only read 65 on there though. Must read more.

Anna8888 · 12/06/2007 10:06

I was a bit surprised, as I don't think of myself as a great reader of fiction. I prefer real life.

101 including all those Beckett novels I read for my degree but cannot remember now. And am writer. .

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 12/06/2007 22:09

Well I spent 2 hours ploughing through Amaon this morning looking up lots of the books I've not heard of. Then discounting the oes that don't appeal and making a list of those I want to read - have about 200 in my "must read" list!

AnneJones · 13/06/2007 12:14

120 - much lower than expected so am very glad you all think it a bizarre list - I certainly felt it was, thought I was reasonably well-read. I didn't score things I am pretty sure I have read but couldn't remember much about though! Modern list was quite odd. Lots of good things missed off totally. Grr.

merlotmama · 13/06/2007 23:47

124 and I had thought I was well read. Appalled to discover a) how many books I know I have read, but have forgotten all about and b) how many I started and gave up on.

Going thro' phases of reading all Steinbecks/Dickens/Wyndhams or whoever, helped. Some very bizarre choices tho'...what is it with all those Ian Banks (in both his incarnations?)

controlfreaky2 · 13/06/2007 23:57

dont any of you read much? . 335 here (some of them really crap!)funny list.

fortyplus · 14/06/2007 00:00

Well I've only read 55 - most of them before I was 20! A bit shocked that I had read so few of the 20th century ones.

However - why no Homer - The Iliad/The Odyssey

No other Greek Lit - Herodotus/Medea/Sophocles/Electra.

Whoever compiled the list was a pleb!

196 but as an English Grad - I'd actually had to read a lot of them anyway. Some were also in the original language. Interesting to jog my memory as to how many I'd read.

AuldAlliance · 14/06/2007 13:39

235 (guess what I do for a living...?)

BUT am relieved not to have to confess to how many
a) I enjoyed
b) I can remember much about

Agree the list is odd, strange choices for certain authors. Not much Scottish stuff, either, bar the Grassic Gibbon and some Stevenson.

Bouquetsofdynomite · 14/06/2007 21:29

LOL I'm dead chuffed because I've read 27 of them! Including 3 18th century ones (ok 2 were pretty much porn.)
