I know why [mysterious]

Enid · 06/06/2007 10:39

right ok hundred x then I will try Beeton if you agree with me on Restless and Any Human Heart.

I am reading A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry atm - recommended by MrsBadger and I am enjoying it so much even though it is heartbreaking - such a superb book.

ahundredtimes · 06/06/2007 11:03

Yes great book. The original edition had a great photograph on the front of a boy balancing on a long pole, does it still?

Enid · 06/06/2007 11:06

yes

ahundredtimes · 06/06/2007 11:07

Hurrah. Mrs Beeton okaaay, read on holiday last year, that sort of a book. Best book ever though is Bad Blood by Lorna Sage, have you read that? Move it up the list, if not.

I haven't read any DDM and want to pick one for my Book Club - which would you recommend?

JoolsToo · 06/06/2007 11:26

just read the synopsis on Amazon - it has good reviews but the storyline doesn't grab me

Enid · 06/06/2007 11:26

Bad Blood www.amazon.co.uk/Bad-Blood-Memoir-Lorna-Sage/dp/1841150436/ref=pd_bowtega_2/026-0540868-0041262?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1181125753&sr=1-2

there is a Bad Blood by Linda Farnstein - maybe that is the unworthy one?

BishyBarneyBee · 06/06/2007 11:30

restless good

rebecca good

am reading 'villa in italy' for book group. 'tis boring and shit.

BishyBarneyBee · 06/06/2007 11:31

donna tart secret history was god but did not liek the new one.

JoolsToo · 06/06/2007 11:32

The Little Friend?

that was dd's critique also

BishyBarneyBee · 06/06/2007 11:35

taht's it - was shit - gave up halfway but could of been me being intolerant. Took her long enough to write - maybe living up to secret history was too much.

Zog · 06/06/2007 11:35

Thanks BBB

ahundredtimes · 06/06/2007 11:36

Enid - oh no no no, have never read any of those Is wonderful. Is memoir, but good.

Enid · 06/06/2007 12:07

[unsure]

its not like dave peltzer is it? or flowers in the attic?

I think I think it is which is why I have never bought it

Enid · 06/06/2007 12:08

oh I liked teh Little friend

sorted out all my books at the weekend and am having craving for 70s/60s kitsch like Valley of the Dolls and James Bond

Boco · 06/06/2007 12:15

So Cod, what do you think - did Rachel do it? I loved the book but can't cope with uncertain endings. Rebecca is great too - makes you want to motor to London with a travel rug on your lap.

Like Donna Tartt - little friend was good, long and meandering but enjoyed it.

ahundredtimes · 06/06/2007 12:48

Enid, NO is not Dave P type thing. Oh no. Is very literary memoir about Lorna Sage who grew up to be Angela Carter's best friend and academic powerhouse dontcha know. Is funny and odd and tender and strange.
Kitsch 70s books? Okay, will have a think.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 06/06/2007 12:54

My sister bought me Bad Blood.

I lost the will to live about halfway through.
