What fan fiction are people reading at the moment?

I used to write and read a lot of ff then I had a baby... My fandoms have gone quiet in the interim.

If you like ff what are you reading - what fandom, fics, ships?

@ShowOfHands - I don't really ship anyone, I'm more into bromance and action, hurt/comfort type fics. There used to be some phenomenal writers on FFnet for Supernatural but most seem to have dropped away or migrated to other fandoms. I'm sure there are still some good authors there but there's so much poor writing too that I can't really be bothered to sift through it all so I go back to my favourites every time.

I love, love, love femmequixotic and noeon! If you have lots and lots of time to spare I really recommend Femme’s ‘Tales from the Special Branch.’ It’s a series of 5 parts now and she updates regularly. It’s primarily a Harry/Draco but their are side pairings as well. Very long (1 million words in all!) and plotty with tons of sex. Some genuinely good OCs as well which is rare in fanfic.

I’m also diving into Things Worth Knowing as rec’d upthread - missed it and a few others from Erised 2017, so that’s my reading time sewn up for the next 2 weeks

But the million-word-long fic? Fuck me, that’s just overwritten. So much fic needs a bloody good edit, if you ask me. Especially true for M/F fics. More than 80K words and I think the writer is having more of a wank than the characters half the time, tbh. Notable exceptions such as Sara’s Girl notwithstanding.

@SilkyDrawers I do wonder where folk find the time to write that many words!

I'm on chapter 5 of Things Worth Knowing, but it a time for bed. 😎
