Off on a school trip to Paris next week Grin It’s a long coach journey so looking to fill my kindle with some great Paris-set novels to distract me from the whinging teenagers... any suggestions? I’ve read Suite Francaise and loved it.

The President’s Hat by Antoine Laurain (author mentioned by pp) is lovely and is as much about Paris as about the hat Smile

Down and out in Paris and London for a view of the underbelly in the 30s.
If you have time for anything chunkier a Zola such as The Belly of Paris.
Pure. Can't remember the author, set shortly before the Revolution, about the creation of the catacombs but a great social snapshot of pre modern, pre republican France in a time of transition.

L'Assomoir by Emile Zola - fantastic book. the dark, seedy life, living cheek by jowl of the working class in Paris .

whataboutbob Pure - Andrew Miller

I loved The Perfume Collector by Kathleen Tessaro https://www.amazon.co.uk/kindle-dbs/author/ref=mwdppaap??encoding=UTF8&author=Kathleen%20Tessaro&searchAlias=books&asin=B001H9PE4U

Revolution by Jennifer Robson (YA but very good - I still think of it when I go to Paris, and it inspired DD to go watch the sunrise from Sacre Coeur)

Somewhere in France by Jennifer Robson, 4 books in the series

The Velvet Hours by Alyson Richman

The Paris Architect by Charles Belfoure

House I Loved by Tatiana de Rosnay (not my favourite, but interesting read about the Haussman times in Paris)

And Chicklit:
Paris for One by Jojo Moyes
Weekend in Paris

Someone has already mentioned Suite Francaise, The Paris Wife and The Lollipop Shoes

elkiedee · 08/08/2018 08:30

Hilary Mantel, A Place of Greater Safety
memoir - Ernest Hemingway, A Moveable Feast - very much a source for Paula McLain's The Paris Wife novel mentioned above

Justsaysonow - Do you mean Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly?

larinai · 08/08/2018 14:19
