Books set in Paris

Off on a school trip to Paris next week It’s a long coach journey so looking to fill my kindle with some great Paris-set novels to distract me from the whinging teenagers... any suggestions? I’ve read Suite Francaise and loved it.

The Paris Wife -Paula McLain. A fictionalised account of Ernest Hemingway’s first wife and their years in Paris. Really good.

The Elegance of the Hedgehog- beautifully written and rather different!

Le Divorce or also Le Mariage, both by Diane Johnson

Henry and June by Anais Nin

Also, Perfume by Patrick Sueskind. Though not entirely set in Paris, enough of it is and it's a fabulous book, despite its darkness.

The Maigret novels are great - each one is short, and they span over decades. I love the incidental references to the laundry boats on the Seine, the descriptions of how people lived in boarding houses and rooms behind the shop, of the new suburbs being built etc.

For a more modern and trashy read, the earlier Aimee Leduc books by Cara Black are fun.

The Little Paris bookshop - I read this recently and really enjoyed it.

The Pursuit of Love only has one part based in Paris but it's what I immediately thought of.

Same for When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit if you haven't read that.

I second The Elegance of the Hedgehog. Reading it now. Much prefer it to Perfume (Suskind).

'Life A User's Manua'l by Georges Perec is one of my all time favourites

Short stories by Guy de Maupassant. They are riveting and exquisitely crafted. He uses locations a lot so you can look them up.

Ladies Paradise by Zola too.

The Dud Avocado by Elaine Dundy - in fact I came on here expecting to find lots of recommendations for it already posted!

American pastry chef David Lebovitz's book about renovating his Paris apartment. I think it's called The Apartment (but that's off the top of my head).

The Red Notebook by Antoine Lauraine is really lovely.

Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell.

The Reader on the 6.27 is extremely French and I think its set in Paris but not in a touristy way
