I know we're grateful if they read anything at all etc etc, but there are some books which make me howl with misery at the thought of MY having to read and others which I just wish they wouldn't read.

For me: any of those fairy books, The Secret Seven and (from long ago) anything featuring that dog, Spot or that blimmin sheep Wooly who lives on that farm with Mrs Boot and her children.

for them: Captain Underpants, Horrid Henry - everybody is so darn nasty - and that one that's a bit like Captain Underpants but is about robots.

It's same-sex but written by (and about) both sexes.

'I love you forever' by Robert Munsch. It was the one Joey read on freinds for Emma's birthday. It was so sad it made me ?cry foe a day and is now banished to the back of the bookcase.
Anyone read it

ahundredtimes · 24/05/2007 13:06

He does TV and film mostly. He's working on trying to get a series away with the bbc about a chicken in a tutu, I think it's a goer, I've said to him, I've said, you really need to work that Helen in from Spot because she's complex.

Potter slash is a bit weird. Buffy slash is fabulous.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 24/05/2007 13:07

That's what I thought Issy. As in Harry Potter/Dumbledore.

Dogsby · 24/05/2007 13:07

a kids series wiht the tut i presume....... wow or maybe NOT?

ahundredtimes · 24/05/2007 13:07

Thank you Cod - it is Cod isn't it? I'm just using my new moniker to be a little more direct.

I stand corrected MI!

Sigh! It's such a sign of aging when you find yourself slightly bug-eyed at a cultural phenomenon which is unremarkable and familiar to everybody else.

bozza · 24/05/2007 13:15

It's all those counting ones I am not keen on. You know - count with fiver - where there is one turnip on the first page, two carrots on the second etc.. Does that really help children learn to count?

ahundredtimes · 24/05/2007 13:16

I really hate the colour ones. Look! The Bucket is . . .(turn page, unbelievable suspense) RED!

I don't like Mr Men either - find them really hard to read out loud for some reason. DD loves them tho and she reads them out to me given half a chance.

MI lol at Ancient Text of Reverence.

Quite like Topsy and Tim.

TBH any books I'm really not keen on don't tend to stay around long or else I refuse to read them (mean old mummy - but we do have an awful lot of books)

ahundredtimes · 24/05/2007 13:49

I'm not that mad about Angelina. It's the cottage she lives in and all that dancing in the flowers business that gets me. Don't mind it so much when they're in the lessons taking instruction.

Dogsby · 24/05/2007 13:52

god so glad to haev boys and be stuck wiht diggers are good at( suspense) dig dig dgigin

TheArmadillo · 24/05/2007 13:55

Toddler books I hate with a pure and furious passion (which is why dp reads the bedtime story).
Spot
Miffy the rabbit (why did my mum have to get him hooked on these).
Thomas (not only boring but oh so long)
Topsy and Tim

I don't give ds a choice when I read to him.

IdrisTheDragon · 24/05/2007 14:03

At least "old" Thomas is better than the new versions. There are occasional moments of linguistic fun in the old ones - Jeramiah Jobling with his boot lace for example .

Dogsby my dd loves Diggers. I threw away Mr Small and have hidden Guess How Much.... as that was a present. I am ruthless.
