Oh sounds wonderful
We booked to go to Cheltenham Literary Festival last Autumn; but in the end with my dad dying and everything we just didn't have the energy.

Hope you enjoy it: we expect a full report when you get back!

roisin · 28/04/2007 12:51

Where are you going to stay?

MrsWho · 28/04/2007 12:58

We are staying at Ross-on-Wye in a cottage (with my parents and grandparents but doing our own thing!) We are spending the whole of half term there and are going to Hay on Mon/Tues am/wed pm/Sat (atm!) Got the programme this am and booked asap

Looked at going last year but could only camp and didn't fancy it so was talking about a caravan and Mam suggested this!

Ooh sounds fab! Did you have to book the cottage a long way in advance?

We've been too South Walney nature reserve today: it was fabulous. Hopefully the boys will be exhausted and sleep well tonight - if they don't have nightmares from Doctor Who. Fear Factor 5 tonight apparently!

RosaLuxembourg · 28/04/2007 17:39

We are hoping to go and camp for a couple of days - DD1 wants to see Caroline Lawrence on the Wednesday. Can't book yet though - are you a friend of the festival - plebs can't book till May 1 I think?

MrsWho · 28/04/2007 21:48

I got sent a programme and phoned up at lunchtime today and they accepted!

ROISIN-Only booked cottage this year Jan/Feb?

Haven't been to Nature Reserve for years, not a big fan of birds and its a bit seagull city for me I do like North End though.

Have been to watch FYT tonight dd1 won tickets from the paper, really enjoyed it!

I am hoping to book tomorrow when tickets go on sale to public. We have booked three nights at the Tangerine Fields campsite - we are camping novices so it could be interesting! I just hope we can get tickets for all the stuff we want to see - Quentin Blake, Caroline Lawrence, Emma Chichester Clark, Anne Fine, Michael Morpurgo.
How old is your DD1 and what does she like reading best?

MrsWho · 01/05/2007 19:25

dd1 is 7 and dd2 is 5. dd1 reads anything and everything!
She is a big fan of Roald Dahl and that sort of style and loves Horrible Histories but also likes the fairy crap stuff!
ATM she is reading Phillip Pullman.

MrsWho · 01/05/2007 19:26

How many kids have you Rosa? How old?

OP posts:
RosaLuxembourg · 01/05/2007 20:53

Hi Mrs Who
I have three DDs aged 9, 7 and 4. We should meet up at Hay! My DD1 is crazy about Caroline Lawrence and the older two both love Michael Morpurgo. DD2 is also a bit of an Enid Blyton fan and says she wishes she were still alive so we could go to hear her speak.

MrsWho · 01/05/2007 21:09

Yeah haave you booked yet?

OP posts:
roisin · 01/05/2007 21:16

What Pullman is your dd1 reading atm MrsWho? Maybe we could meet up to get her to inspire my ds2.

He has moments of enthusiasm and gets stuck into a huge book, but then trails off and doesn't finish it. Today he rejected all my reasonable/sensible suggestions, and insisted on starting reading Eragon - which is huge. He read for about an hour, and has read 26 page. At that rate it will take him 7 weeks, which is ridiculous.

MrsWho · 01/05/2007 21:27

Its one of the younger ones, can't find it to chack the title(prob under her covers!) something about scarecrows?

she tends to read one like that then a couple of those fairy books (tends to finish one of those in 2 nights) and ten back to a 'decent' one.

I've got Eragon but haven't read the sequel yet.

Know what you mean Mrs Who - will have to tell DH tonight that have spent £93 on tickets. But we ARE camping!
I have booked two tickets for Horrible Histories but I don't know whether I should go with DD1 or let her and DD2 go on their own. They are both very sensible for their age.
We will only be there Wed to Fri morning but we are packing in some grown up stuff as well as the children's talks.
I am doing Roy Hattersley on Shakespeare and DH is going to Iain Banks.

MrsWho · 02/05/2007 22:19

I wanted to do some grown up stuff but as it is only me I can't do it very easily.
Though Mam is looking after dd2 so I can take dd1 to Lauren Child/Horrile histories

Have you been before?

OP posts:
RosaLuxembourg · 02/05/2007 23:44

DH and I went a couple of times before we had children - but as DD1 is going to be 10 this summer, that means we can't have been for at least 10 years! We really enjoyed it then - but it was a lot smaller and more low key. I believe it is a huge event now so I will be very interested to see the difference.
