Hurrah Smile I've been looking for a book group for ages! Can I join? North and south sounds like a great choice.

Alittlebitofthis · 31/12/2017 05:51

Can I join too please? I'll read on my kindle. Dh bought me a paper white for Xmas. I had the fire but the storage was rubbish for books!

StripySocksAndDocs · 31/12/2017 06:22

Just requested North and South from my library!!!

OutComeTheWolves · 31/12/2017 06:30

Just found this. I'm hoping to read more this year and go online less, so can I join too please?

BookWitch · 31/12/2017 06:37

I'm in too if that's OK

DorisDay88 · 31/12/2017 06:46

I'd love to join in too, spend far too much time on my iPad and want to get back reading. Did English lit as part of my degree many many years ago, hopefully have North and South somewhere. If not I'll go rummage in a charity shop
Thanks for starting this OP

Whatshallichoose · 31/12/2017 08:21

Ok North and South it is. Just need to work out how to use the kindle voucher I was given for Christmas and finish my Christmas mindless trash and I'm on it

bootygirl · 31/12/2017 09:17

I d like to join. What date do we have to read the book by? Can I also recommend "Essex serpent"

Thanks

Wishfulmakeupping · 31/12/2017 09:25

Loved the series never read the book- will look forward to getting into. When do we need to have read by?

StripySocksAndDocs · 31/12/2017 10:00

Hopefully this will work!! Last one started on here died a very quick death 😯

Only about three people came back to the thread a month later. If Facebook isn't liked then Goodread group is a possibility?

Years ago a MN group was set up - there was a reading challange for the year which wasn't fun. Nothing too unmanageable (involved reading 10 books).

Worked brilliantly until someone thought randomers (well randomers beyond random people through MN!!) should join. Then some person took over the reading challenges and made them more work than pleasure. Sad

I am in

Bluewarbler · 31/12/2017 10:19

I’m in too!

Alittlebitofthis · 31/12/2017 10:31

I've got it on my kindle now. Am I right that it's a free book now?

Tuttytoffee · 31/12/2017 10:33

Which one is everyone purchasing on the kindle?

Plentyoffishnets · 31/12/2017 10:50

Booty - I think completing the book by 25th of each month is the aim, then it gives us enough chance to discuss it and choose the next book before the start of the next month.

i think it probably is best to keep it on here and anyone is welcome to join at any point. I think so long as we continue with the book a month and have a particular date to finish by people will always have something to come back to. Obviously we all start the year with good intentions but sometimes things get in the way and you can't keep up. At least this way, you could jump back in the next month if you haven't been able to complete the book.
I think it's good we are doing this ourselves as I think other online groups and also an official mn one if it ever re-starts is susceptible to commercial interests! at least through here we can all make suggestions and then possibly vote at month end for the following months choice. So, end Jan we vote for March choice for example. Then gives people a chance to buy/order the book in.
Hopefully we can keep this going. There definitely seem to be quite a lot of people interested. Let's see how it goes. I think we'll need new thread title each month and will then make it easier to follow.
In fact I'll make one now and post a link to it in a min Smile
