Chillywhippet · 30/12/2017 21:09

OCSockOrphanage · 30/12/2017 21:18

I think I might be in...

Chillywhippet · 30/12/2017 21:25

Of course some of that recommended list feature on the worst books of 2017 too ...

Watching with interest to see how on earth we decide?

Did you have a book in mind Plentyoffishnets

jemmstar1980 · 30/12/2017 21:30

I would like to be in please :)

FinallyHere · 30/12/2017 22:21

And I, please.

Plentyoffishnets · 30/12/2017 22:31

Thanks for doing that chilliwhippet ! looks like a great list! of those I think the north and south one or fatherland are grabbing me the most.
Would you be happy to go with one of those? I guess if a book is decided we'd need enough time to get a copy and read it. I guess for jan we'll be a but more rushed than other months cos of starting up now but do you think it would be viable to have read it by 25th Jan? Then we can discuss it that last week of Jan and decide on the Feb book?

GlampingQueen · 30/12/2017 22:32

I'm keen.

threads123 · 30/12/2017 22:34

Please may I join?

desperatelyseekingcaffeine · 30/12/2017 22:42

Good varied list! I've read a few of them but not many. A lot are on my (very long) to read list! Plentyoffishnets I'd be up for either of those 2 choices and planning to read on kindle so timescales look ok to me.

thepatchworkcat · 30/12/2017 22:44

I might join too. I went to a real book group once but it was a bit cliquey, everyone already knew each other from knitting group, plus they all seemed to hate the book and I’d loved it but was too shy to give my opinions! Blush So I didn’t go back. Seemed pointless if I was too timid to speak!

lollipop7 · 30/12/2017 22:50

I’d love to join

I’ve read the Wally Lamb one but none of the others on that list @Chillywhippet

falgelednl · 30/12/2017 22:53

Can I join in too please? Happy to read and discuss anything.

MohoBoho · 30/12/2017 23:00

Can I join too please?

Chillywhippet · 30/12/2017 23:09

I'm happy to go with either of those two too. They sound different so could be Jan and Feb?

I'm currently reading a book DH gave me for Christmas, How Hard Can it Be? By Allison Pearson who wrote I don't know how she does it. It reads like my friend and I wrote it. Not that we are investment bankers but if we were our lives would be even more like the book. I'll get it out of the way quickly now and look forward to some escapism.

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 30/12/2017 23:20

I would love to join your book club! I was invited to a new local one recently for mums with small children but they decided to hold it at bedtime in a pub Hmm so safe to say I am not going!

Plentyoffishnets · 30/12/2017 23:32

yey! so it looks like this is getting off the ground - great stuff!
so shall we say north and south for January and fatherland for Feb then. Not sure how we'll decide book choices going forwards but hopefully by then we'll have a regular group and know who we all are so can vote on it or take turns.
Well I look forward to getting stuck in to some serious reading this year!

I'm in tentatively but hate FB with a passion, sorry! Can we just post on here instead?

Dillydallyontheway · 30/12/2017 23:40

Great idea, I'm in!

lollipop7 · 30/12/2017 23:46

I’ve got two books on the go so shall polish them off.

North and South for January is that correct?

Chillywhippet · 30/12/2017 23:56

MN 2017 book club is now open Flowers Wine Brew

January's book is North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell - a bit like Pride and Prejudice in Manchester with socialism.

Aiming to read by January 25th to allow for some discussion and ramblings.

February's book is tentatively Fatherland.

All here. No fb.
Hope that's right. Chip in if I've made a mistake.

LucyLastik · 31/12/2017 00:00

Which version of the book are we going with? I want to read on kindle but not sure which one to order.

glitterbiscuits · 31/12/2017 00:00

Oh, me too. I read North and South for A-level about a million years ago. Still have it I think.

May I ask for the Eleanor Oliphant book to be a future choice. I’ve heard lots about it

Chillywhippet · 31/12/2017 00:00

Should have said all welcome whether you are aiming to read just our 12 books or these plus 40 more.

I'm in reading rehab. Aiming to read more and MN less ironically Blush
