Following on from other Discworld thread.

My favourite is Reaperman. Least favourite is Moving Pictures.

Feet of Clay for the Golem, and they reappeared in Going Postal

I do however own many Pratchett style posting names .. and will consider auctioning them off to the highest bidder

motherinferior · 24/04/2007 16:53

There is a gollum, briefly, in that one where the witches go on a journey - which one is it? The Oz one. Rather fab, it is.

motherinferior · 24/04/2007 16:53

Oz as in Oz, not Australia, that is. Witches Abroad, that's the one.

Callmemadam · 24/04/2007 17:07

I LOVE LOVE LOVE all of them but my favourite book is Interestin Times - fave character though is Otto the reformed vampire when he smells blood - " Oh no, vot must you be zinking of me"....and singing that ridiculous Temperance song - have forgotten where he turns up first....

Bucketsofdynomite · 24/04/2007 18:03

Anything with Sam Vimes, probably the one where he's chased by werewolves. Small Gods is very good though, kind of a book apart from your average Discworld book, much deeper, less spoofy.

Don't like the Rincewind ones, I find him tiresome and tiring, all that relentless action.

I watched 'I Robot' the other day and finally twigged that Feet of Clay is spoof of that .

GreebosWhiskers · 24/04/2007 22:06

Does anyone else have a bit of a 'thing' for Sam Vimes, or is it just me?

I love the bit at the end of Night Watch - another one that had me with a lump in my throat - when Vimes is on the broomstick behind Ridcully, starkers

RustyBear · 24/04/2007 22:34

Actually I'd have to add Pyramids to my list just because of the names Djelibeybi and Ptraci

lillochum · 24/04/2007 22:45

I'm with Twiglett - the witches ones and the guards ones are my favourites. DH is the major fan in this house, but I am reading some of the ones I missed just now. But come on girls what about "Equal Rites"?!!! That's my personal favourite. I know it so well that I took it with me to listen to in childbirth - enough fun and plot to distract me, but knowing it so well I could miss bits when the contractions got a bit heavy - all three of my children were born with Equal Rites on in the background!

ILoveDolly · 24/04/2007 22:50

i read lots when i was a teenager and have just picked them up again age 30 - can't believe I have wasted the last 15 years reading serious books!! so haven't read about half of them but I love the witches ones best, generally -

fryalot · 24/04/2007 22:53

I just love them all.

wish I could remember who I lent them to, though

GreebosWhiskers · 24/04/2007 23:02

I actually feel a bit envious of anyone just discovering discworld 'cos they've got all these fantastic books just waiting for them. I've got to wait whole a year in between new discworld fixes

Earthymama · 24/04/2007 23:09

They are real 'treat' books aren't they? in that I get them, maybe as a prezzie and organise an uninterupted afternoon or evening to start them, hopefully with G&B's and a drink at hand.
Then I spend my time in a daze as DW is far more 'real' than RL til I've finished.

Earthymama · 24/04/2007 23:13

Do you all drive those around you insane by falling about laughing, then trying to explain, then realising the premise is all too big to even begin, and blaming them for not having the sense to read these BRILL books, and then 2 mins later starting again!!
Or just me?

agnesnitt · 25/04/2007 16:08

Of course, it is what distinguishes us as 'true' nutters

I have just got into 'Thud', thanks to this thread.

Very funny. For some reason, when I was given it I had lots of other books on the go. So I didnt read it, and it joined 'The Pile'TM of unread books that lives next to my bed.

Having dusted it off I read some last night, and earlier today. Very funny.

Mildly amazed people didn't 'complain' about some parts of it.

Do other MNetter have a 'The Pile'TM next to their beds?

agnesnitt · 25/04/2007 18:51

My Pile is lurking in a box in the bottom of my wardrobe. That's what a girl gets for not having her bookcases isn't it? For letting the male use them for dvds. However, I am reclaiming my shelves, and they will have books on them

Where was I?

Oh yes... The Pile. It's never had Pratchett books in it though, I love them too much, and one every two years is just too much of a wait to let them get to The Pile

janeite · 25/04/2007 19:04

Loved Reaperman - totally inspired! Also love all the Sam Vimes ones and - not sure if this is the right place to admit it - but I think I quite fancy Carrot.

Janeite sneaks off in embarrassment.

belgo · 25/04/2007 19:11

I've just finised the 'Wee Free Men', the first discworld book I've read in about two years, and it was fantastic. I've now started 'A Hatfull of Sky'.

I also found 'Good Omens' very interesting, (I know it's not Discworld!)

Not so keen on his first couple of discworld books such as 'The Light Fantastic ' and The Colour of Magic'

Callmemadam · 25/04/2007 19:36

Ok Twiglett - I wanna be NannyOGG (not spiritual enought o be Granny Weatherwax - that's St G or Expat but it won't let me - are you holding the name then??? I want to be the one singing "The Hedgehog can never be Bugg...." when the Bar's open!!! Please?

belgo · 25/04/2007 19:48

I want to be Magrat, but I suspect that's taken.

Twiglett · 25/04/2007 20:55

don't have NannyOgg .. but I've got Magrat

RustyBear · 25/04/2007 21:21

Maybe some of the Prattchett names will be in the auction
