I agree with mummysurfer as well - it is quite unusual for me to have to make an effort to finish reading a book.

I thought the funniest part of "I don't know how she does it" was the 'spilt raisins' by the bin in the kitchen

PicadillyCircus · 21/07/2004 21:37

Not sure I would read a sequel to be honest.

well, i never read the book, so i cant talk about it, which means i in wrong forum, ?

mummysurfer · 21/07/2004 21:41

no, not one i'll be looking out for.
i needed more info about her character, his character. well tbh a bit more info on everything

wickedstepmum · 21/07/2004 21:41

Actually, I like all sorts of books. Patrick O'Brian is an all-time favourite and Middlemarch is the book I'm taking with me when I go on Desert Island Discs. My DH has just given me Jasper Fforde's The Eyre Affair which, so far, is brilliant. Lots of time shifts and changes/alterations in/to classic literature. Our heroine is called Thursday Next which must rank amongst the all-time great names like Ford Prefect. And how about the writer Millon de Floss!?

I imagine that if we could manage MSN we'd have more of a sequential conversation...but I must say how much I agree with you mummysurfer. Much more info was needed

johno · 21/07/2004 21:44

well i have a 13 month old boy and could do with some tips

Agree with wsm and mummysurfer, felt obliged to like it as had won a copy (thanks MN) but actually found it tedious and irritating. Also agree about the strange lack of emotion (or humour); she doesn't have any feeling for anyone, including her baby, and neither do the other characters. None of them are convincing or well-drawn. Maybe it's because I don't usually read Jane Green, etc. but the 'chick lit' (hate that phrase) that I have come across has been amusing. This book isn't.

mummysurfer · 21/07/2004 21:45

i can't seem to get into anything at the moment in a big way. enjoyed The Girl with the pearl earring - but only enjoyed wasn't really into it. just starting Lonely Bones. a friend took her 2 to soft play 3 mornings running she was so into it!

Da Vinci Code sounds intriguing. I think I must add my name to my library's waiting list for that one!

I wasn't that keen on Girl with the Pearl Earring and saw the film last week which I thought looked exquisite but was SO slow. Lovely Bones had me gripped from the first page. Brilliant book and Exactly my idea of heaven
