Any recommendations for good non fiction books?

Preferably on kindle so I can read them when getting DC to sleep.

Feel like I haven't read a good book for ages and can't be bothered with fiction. I want to read facts/autobiography/travelogue type of thing.

I have been reading a lot of Non-fiction. My favourite areas are Mountaineering and crime (forensic psychology):

The Fact of a Body (a bit harrowing but beautifully-written)
Into Thin Air (Everest disaster)
How Not to be a Boy (Robert Webb Autobiog - funny and touching)
Chase your Shadow: The Trials of Oscar Pistorious (fascinating insight into his psychology)
Behind the Door (slightly different perspective on OP)
No Way Down (K2 disaster)
Buried in the Sky (K2 disaster from Sherpas' perspective)
The People vs OJ Simpson
Revolutionary Ride (woman motor bikes through Iran)

I love those too! Read them end-to end in France (FIL lives in that area)

They're great aren't they - and also get excellent reviews on amazon. I wish I could find another series of books I'd enjoy as much as I did these.

I just read Clare Tomalin's autobiography 'A Life of My Own'. It was such a good read, I just ate it up.

The Radium Girls is harrowing but really interesting.

Death's Acre by Bill Bass & Jon Jefferson is a long term favourite of mine. It's a grizzly subject but Bill is really funny.

Much better getting stuck into a kindle book than skimming instagram etc.

Chris Stewart, Driving Over Lemons - Spain (there are loads of these, all good)

Hilary Burden, A Story of Seven Summers - Tasmania

Helen Russell, The Year of Living Danishly - Denmark obviously

Caro Feely, Saving Our Skins - France, couple set up a winery together

Katherine Stewart, A Croft In The Hills - rural Scotland

All great reads.

If you fancy some historical non-fiction, I just read Alison Wier's Richard III and the Princes in the Tower, very good.

Also enjoyed Lost Moon (about the Apollo 13 mission), so much more than was in the Tom Hanks film.

Prisoners of Geography is excellent, provided you are interested in politics and history as well as geography.

Savage Continent, about the aftermath of WWII on the continent is quite harrowing at times but an important book

The good women of China is a fascinating, eye opening book

Persian Fire by Tom Holland is a great book about the Persian Empire.

Shadow of the Silk Road by Colin Thubron was fascinating.

Blood River by Tim Butcher, about a journalist who followed Stanley's route along the Congo River.

Currently reading 'The Snowball: Warren Buffett and the Business of Life' by Alice Schroeder

Normally don't like autobiographies and thought this would be heavy going- but my goodness this mans life is something else.

Oh, and I just remembered a book I read ages ago. It's The Rasputin File by Edvard Radzinsky. It's based on a file from the Russian State Archives that was discovered in 1995 and it's fascinating. Dispels some of the myths about Rasputin. Even though it's translated from Russian it's very readable.

This is a set of three set during and after ww2 and contain extracts of peoples letters to mass observation.

I also love clear waters rising by Nicholas crane. Its one of my favorite books.
