Does anyone else read these? I've just got Y is for Yesterday and it's made me think all the way back to borrowing the early ones from the library when I was at school!

I'll be gutted when I finish Z.

I've dipped in and out of these over the years. This post has reminded me that I need to get back to them!

NecklessMumster · 07/09/2017 20:54

I used to love them but i could never remember which ones i'd already read. Kind of waiting for the series to finish and get a box set! I love Kinsey and the details of her life esp her liitle apartment and Henry(?)

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 07/09/2017 20:56

Do! I'm wondering if I can reread the lot before the last one comes out. I don't generally reread, so it must be almost 25 years since I read the first one. I am so old! Unlike Kinsey, who barely ages, and is now younger than me!

Yes, Henry (still alive). Have you got to the one where her apartment gets blown up and then remodelled? She now has a bathtub with a skylight view of the stars - I really fancy one of those.

I love these, haven't got the new one yet though.

kateclarke · 07/09/2017 21:00

I love this series so much. I remember wanting to be Kinsey and looking into being a PI.

Graphista · 07/09/2017 21:02

I read these I'm currently reading X and am hoping for Y for Christmas.

Love these books, the humour, retro details etc

iklboo · 07/09/2017 21:03

Yay! Fellow Kinsey fans. I'm just reading Y is for Yesterday, about halfway through. I got into them when Cosmo gave a free copy of A is for Alibi about a million years ago. I'll be gutted when they finish.

Definitely on my wish list if they bring out a box set.

NecklessMumster · 07/09/2017 21:04

Yes, thats the apartment I want, all mine with no kids etc! And Henry's cinnamon rolls, but i wouldn't go to the restaurant with the bad hungarian food

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 07/09/2017 21:04

Apart from anything else, all the descriptions of typewriters, microfiches, and going to the library to use various directories makes me heartily grateful for the Internet. Kinsey would love the Internet, unless it rendered her unemployed.

I got the free Cosmo book too. My DH (who was my boyfriend back then) got me a box set but it only went up to about N. That's all she'd written at that point. I don't think I've ever read the later ones. I think I might need to start reading them again.

iklboo · 07/09/2017 21:10

I used to work with a bloke I imagined looked like Jonah might have had a crush.

Polter · 07/09/2017 21:11

I love them and re-read them all every few years, currently catching up again before reading Y.

I also love the VI Warshawski (Sara Paretsky) and Tess Monaghan (Laura Lippman) series.

I use index cards for studying and preparing presentations, and got a lock-pick set for my birthday Grin

Toomanycats99 · 07/09/2017 21:11

Ooh. I don't think I knew y was out - it seems like their is ages between her books unlike James Patterson who seems to publish a new one every week!

ShimmeringIce · 07/09/2017 21:13

Love them! Got a boxset of 10 from the charity shop then spent £££ collecting the rest Grin
I've just started Y, not got far. My mind wanders back to Kinsey's world a lot (I think because it seems so simple... no dependants, small minimalist house, irregular easy meals) but I find I get a bit depressed if I read too many of them in a row?
I'm really hoping there's a good finale for Z - but making significant character development believable will be tricky. I'm scared for Henry, too, he's so old!

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 07/09/2017 21:14

Can you buy lock pick sets? Do they work??

I never liked Jonah after he went back to the obnoxious unfaithful wife. I thought Dietz was best suited to Kinsey, but he seems to have dropped off the radar.

Lock pick training set

I haven't tried it yet...

Spadequeen · 07/09/2017 21:19

I loved this series. Must go back and re read them!

banivani · 07/09/2017 21:20

I was really into them before but they're not as good now. I think the plotting is sloppier or maybe they just don't feel 80s enough now.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 07/09/2017 21:20

Ok, I looked at the lock picks and I immediately know I would destroy any lock I tried those on.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 07/09/2017 21:23

I disagree Banivani - I think she's one of the few authors who maintain a good standard overall (although some books are better than others).

I love these books. I've got them all from the series so far and I can't wait for the next one.

I liked Dietz too. The rest haven't suited.

tinytemper66 · 07/09/2017 22:52

I stopped at S! I need to get back into it!

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 07/09/2017 22:53

I think I've got up to T. I need to read from the start, it's been a while. My mum loves them too.
