There's nothing like a good thrilling book - to read or to listen to. To celebrate the release of Audible's Thriller of the Year: Silent Child by Sarah A Denzil, we want to know about the last time you were truly gripped by a book.

What Audible say:

In the summer of 2006, Emma Price watched helplessly as her six-year-old son's red coat was fished out of the River Ouse. It was the tragedy of the year - a little boy, Aiden, wandered away from school during a terrible flood, fell into the river, and drowned. His body was never recovered. Ten years later Emma has finally rediscovered the joy in life. She's married, pregnant, and in control again… until Aiden returns.

Too traumatised to speak, he raises endless questions and answers none. Where has he been? What happened to him on that rainy afternoon? And now that he's back, who can he trust?

At Audible, we love listening to crime books. But every so often one comes along that we think is truly special. An Amazon Kindle number one bestseller, Sarah A Denzil's Silent Child is taking Audible HQ by storm. In an Audible Exclusive production, Joanne Froggatt (Mrs Bates, Downton Abbey) delivers a powerhouse performance that'll keep you gripped until the very end.

Gone girl definitely made my get goosebumps, loved the suspense and the twists! Haven't read another good one since that!

Hurraahhnaptime · 07/09/2017 13:14

Daphne du Laurier's book Rebecca was very intense. Such a fantastic plot. I always use the library so it would be a real treat to have a book voucher to buy some thrillers 😱

A while ago now but the shadow of the wind, remember staying up far too late with it, always just wanting to read one more chapter! Long time since I've been desperate to read on like that

kkhimji · 07/09/2017 23:53

Hannibal by Thomas Harris made me shake in my bed! Never touching that book again!

Donnylover · 08/09/2017 11:24

Anything by James Paterson - always twisting the plot.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 08/09/2017 15:07

We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver.

I was shocked and it stayed with me for a while!

Enigma222 · 09/09/2017 09:53

For me it was the Thomas Harris book on Hannibal. I remember being unable to sleep properly for days once I read that.

Susangilley7 · 09/09/2017 12:39

Gillian White's Unhallowed Ground had me on the edge of my seat. Afraid to turn the page sometimes!

FoodstuffFinds · 10/09/2017 21:21

That has to be Peter Swanson's The kind worth killing. It was so twisty, each chapter shocked enough to make me want to put the book down, but simultaneously not stop reading!

Bsummers · 12/09/2017 00:03

Cujo by Stephen King, I love his novels!

hunibuni · 12/09/2017 00:20

American Psycho really stayed with me when I first read it as a teen and still disturbs me even though I don't think the writing is great. John Connolly's Charlie "bird" Parker series is always a gripping read.

sylwright · 12/09/2017 14:25

I'm currently reading The Negotiator by Frederick Forsyth and it is scary that things like he describes actually go on in the world without our knowledge. I'd forgotten what a brilliant author he is and am working my way through all of his books I've not read yet.

The lovely bones! The film no where near does the it justice!
Made me cry so much but was so creepy and bittersweet in parts.

hutchy73 · 12/09/2017 18:07

Ragdoll -daniel Cole -a serial killer made a "doll" out of 6 victims -

red23 · 12/09/2017 19:45

I have just finished 'I see you' by Clare Mackintosh, creepy and gripping!

Emmyliz88 · 13/09/2017 01:43

Weaveworld by Clive Barker. It's a big book but we'll worth it!

IDoDaChaCha · 13/09/2017 08:56

Some great suggestions. Would help for reference if pp would put book name and author name instead of just book name.

hayleyrob01 · 13/09/2017 11:55

I see you by claire makintosh. The way the women were watched just going about their business

Keeccles · 13/09/2017 14:08

Into The Water by Paula Hawkins (author of The Girl On The Train) was probably my last spine tingling read. I couldn't put it down especially near the end!!

becsmatthews · 13/09/2017 14:09

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo I love everything by this author.

ha2el · 13/09/2017 17:54

The Taxidermist's Daughter by Kate Mosse made my skin crawl. The realisation of where the plot was going amidst a challenging landscape made it a challenging read.

lookingbeyond40 · 13/09/2017 18:09

Girl on a Train! Couldn't put it down!

lookingbeyond40 · 13/09/2017 18:10

Girl on the Train even! (sorry)

1969angep · 14/09/2017 17:01

Rattle by Fiona Cummins, when she described the beetles crawling all over the bad guy's body, as though they were pets, it literally made my skin crawl 😳😳
