There's nothing like a good thrilling book - to read or to listen to. To celebrate the release of Audible's Thriller of the Year: Silent Child by Sarah A Denzil, we want to know about the last time you were truly gripped by a book.

What Audible say:

In the summer of 2006, Emma Price watched helplessly as her six-year-old son's red coat was fished out of the River Ouse. It was the tragedy of the year - a little boy, Aiden, wandered away from school during a terrible flood, fell into the river, and drowned. His body was never recovered. Ten years later Emma has finally rediscovered the joy in life. She's married, pregnant, and in control again… until Aiden returns.

Too traumatised to speak, he raises endless questions and answers none. Where has he been? What happened to him on that rainy afternoon? And now that he's back, who can he trust?

At Audible, we love listening to crime books. But every so often one comes along that we think is truly special. An Amazon Kindle number one bestseller, Sarah A Denzil's Silent Child is taking Audible HQ by storm. In an Audible Exclusive production, Joanne Froggatt (Mrs Bates, Downton Abbey) delivers a powerhouse performance that'll keep you gripped until the very end.

Gone girl had me gripped from its beginning to the shock conclusion

GetHappy · 02/09/2017 10:29

I see you by Clare Macintosh gripped me so much .... I stayed up all night to read!! (With the big light on 🙈🙈)

lemony7 · 02/09/2017 11:56

I let you go by Clare Macintosh

sassolino · 02/09/2017 13:17

On, Off by Colleen McCullough made me gasp at the very last page, not something I expected at all.

I have just started reading "Watch Me" by Angela Clarke and it is making my hair stand on end as it is very topical. It's about social media and teenagers. As my daughter has just turned 13, I am terrified of the potential impact of the internet on teenagers who are so image conscious. Scary!!!

Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche - sobering stuff. The shock of poverty, colonialism and domestic violence. So sad, but kinda beautiful.

diamantegal · 02/09/2017 22:25

Quite like a Val McDermid - a bit formulaic at times but good pace and always keeps you on your toes!

MipMipMip · 02/09/2017 22:34

No Kiss Goodbye by Janelle Harris. I could not see where it was going.

SallySwann · 03/09/2017 00:12

The Mayfly by James Hazel, a brilliant debut and a real scary and horrific thriller.

1033MICHELLE · 03/09/2017 09:05

Behind Closed Doors by BA Paris. I just couldn't put it down as it was so good

georgedawes · 03/09/2017 11:59

Gone Girl. I was completely hooked and read it in two days. Great story telling and very freaky!

mdanie89 · 03/09/2017 12:10

Got to be Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Was excellent, hard to beat!

Lorraine1905 · 03/09/2017 12:13

The Handmaid's Tale Margaret Attwood. I watched the series on TV recently and was both enthralled and repulsed by the storyline. I felt compelled to read the book afterwards just to clear up a few unanswered questions although the ending both in the book and the programme felt a bit unfinished. A frighteningly portentous vision of the future.

For me it was The Trap by Melanie Raabe - it was incredibly good with lots of twists and certainly had me on the edge of my seat at times.

glenka · 03/09/2017 12:25

Karin slaughter books are always so gripping.

AngelwingsPetlamb · 03/09/2017 12:25

Just finished reading Lie With Me by Sabine Durrant, it's absolutely brilliant and will definitely make your heart beat faster - I know mine did.

cocochips · 03/09/2017 12:28

The PINOCCHIO BRIEF ABI SILVER- a very gripping tale.

itsali · 03/09/2017 12:38

Universal Harvester, it's by John Darnielle.

TracyKNixon · 03/09/2017 12:45

Mongrels, by Stephen Graham Jones!

ThemisA · 03/09/2017 12:54

Child 44 Tom Rob Smith was a gripping read and graphically shows the fear and paranoia of Russia in the Stalinist years.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 03/09/2017 13:00

The Handmaid's Tale. It's the more chilling because of everything in it already having happened. The only ever book that's ever given me that particular feeling of cold horror was 1984.

towser44 · 03/09/2017 13:03

The Help by Catherine Stockett

Jamboree05 · 03/09/2017 13:11

The book of night women by Marlon James - one of the most gruelling, riveting books I think I've ever read. A very emotive read but absolutely phenomenal.

rutsan · 03/09/2017 13:14

Game of thrones...and loved it.

JoyceDivision · 03/09/2017 13:19

Michelle paver dark matter.... proper creeped me out!!
