I need to get a birthday present for a 3yo girl but as I only have a nearly-2yo boy I don't feel qualified to make a decision! Any suggestions?

Well my dd liked all the "boys" books too - train books (little red train etc) but I am sure you'd be onto a winner with Angelina or anything pink, princessey...

also what about Kati Morag - my 2 adore her..

Boco · 25/03/2007 15:53

my dd loved all the blue kangaroo book when she was 3, especially 'it was you, blue kangaroo'

Tatties · 25/03/2007 15:55

It doesn't have to be something really girly - just a nice book
Haven't heard of Kati Morag

The Blue Kangaroo books by Emma Chichester Clarke are fab see here and a bit less likely to be already in her possession. Naughty Little Sister books are great as well - Book People were doing a good offer on them recently. DD also loves Helen Cooper (Pumpkin Soup etc) and anything by Shirley Hughes.

cazzybabs · 25/03/2007 15:58

sorry it is Katie Morag by Mari Hardwick. About a little girl who lives on a tiny scottish island called Struay and her adventures. The 1st one is called Katie Morag delivers the mail. The pictures are fantastic. The earlier ones are simplier and they get more complicated as Katie Morag gets older. Katie Morag and the 2 grandmothers is also good, and Katie MOrag and the Tiresome ted.

aDad · 25/03/2007 15:58

Rumble in the Jungle
Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast type thing

catASTROPHE · 25/03/2007 16:27

my DDs favourites are

Duck in Truck (and others in the series)
Come on Daisy (etc)
Kids
The tiger who came to tea
the 'mog' books

and "when Frank was Four" by alison lester, and others by her. you would have to buy off amazon as she is australian but some books have been printed in the usa as well. she is fab, pictures are gorgeous, and she is farly certain not to have it!

Tatties · 25/03/2007 20:23

lots of overlap already with my dd3's favourites, she's 3 next month and loves Katie Morag (so do my older girls), Pumpkin soup (especially the scary witch), Tony Ross Little Princess series, Charlie and Lola, the Mog series, and, this month's favourite "Pants". not sure of the author but she is very keen on this one.

McCadburysDreamyegg · 25/03/2007 20:30

The Queen's Knickers

Marina · 25/03/2007 20:32

Blue Kangaroo, the Anholt series eg Sophie's New Baby, Angelina, Alfie and Annie Rose
Also Katie Morag , Six Dinner Sid (for children who like naughty cats) and Ten in the Bed

Marina · 25/03/2007 20:33

Pants is Giles Andreae I think?
Charlie and Lola, of course...although we are taking a break from them in favour of lovely Angelina

glassslipper · 25/03/2007 20:34

agree with blue kangaroo.

also cinderella and little mermaid.

LilyLoo · 25/03/2007 20:35

Little rabbit foo foo.

LittleSarah · 25/03/2007 20:37

OOh I like the look of Blue Kangaroo!

Another vote here for Alfie and Angelina.

pollyanna · 25/03/2007 20:48

Also agree with Blue Kangaroo and Mog.

Also, the Tiger who came to Tea and Owl Babies (my fave!) and the Winnie the witch series too.

Adorabelle · 25/03/2007 21:04

The Large Family books by Jill Murphy are a big hit with my nearly 3 yr old dd.

All about a family of elephants & one is called Five Minutes Peace. It's all about a very overworked Mummy elephant who just wants 5 minutes peace and that's all. Struck a chord with me & now I love reading it at the end of a hard day.

Adorabelle · 25/03/2007 21:05

That's reading it to my dd of course!

glassslipper · 25/03/2007 21:11

oh yes. my dd just got the large family and loves them. it came in a box set with an audio cd

starfairy · 25/03/2007 21:14
