Ahd how ridiculously excited am I? Here on Amazon, but I just happened to spot it in my local independent bookshop and grabbed it. DD said 'Can I start reading it' and I've had to tell her no, that I want to read it first.

Sarah Greene pops into your head because she was in the televised version...and that's how they introduced her when she became a BP presenter.

(she popped into my head when I saw this thread title - begone woman!)

Ooh yes I remember SG being on this, and then being introduced as a blue peter presenter - ahh the days of Simon Groome and Peter Duncan! I used to love BP although the cooler kids were into Magpie.

It actually now has a bit of a guide for modern readers in the front, explaining about pre-decimalisation currency, what the School Certificate and Higher School Certificate were, and what prep and 'order marks' were.

Oh fab I bought a copy from Abebooks so I could read it to dd and ds. They were not as enthralled as I'd hoped but I think I'll try dd with it again now she's a bit older. When we've finished A Little Princess, which is even better than I remembered....

I loved A Swish of the Curtain when I was about 10. Wasn't there another book in the series? There was a programme on Radio 4 recently about Pamela Brown and the books. I think modern children will love the idea of doing something for themselves without parental involvement!

I think the next one was called The Blue Door, or something? Hang on will go and look.... I also think there were another couple, possibly one mainly about Maddy?

Actually, the Golden Pavements one is coming back to me. Wasn't it about Lyn going to RADA?

I run my groups in the hall which the author used to put on her amateur dramatics as a girl, so, in a way, the original Blue Door Theatre

They are repainting the door blue to tie in with the recent reissue of the book

My hall is nothing like the Blue Door hall in the books but it is a nice link to have

I haven't had anyone to show off to about this before, I don't know anyone else who has read the books!
