We gave away 50 copies of Marge and the Pirate Baby, a children's book with three hilarious tales of mayhem perfect for readers aged five to seven.

Marge is back! And this time there's a baby on the loose. Meet Zara, the naughty little cousin, who never sleeps and loves to steal treasure. Marge thinks she's a pirate and maybe she's right. But will the imaginative babysitter be on her best behaviour?

We ask all winners to share their thoughts (and their children's thoughts) about the book on this discussion thread. However, you don't have to win a free copy to take part in the discussion - if you've read Marge and the Pirate Baby anyway, you can post a review it on this thread.

Everyone who posts detailed feedback on the book by midday Tuesday 7 March will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 Love2shop voucher.

This giveaway is sponsored by Piccadilly Press

Ahoy shipmates!

Currently about a third of the way through the latest Marge book (thanking you kindly). This time Jemima and her wee brother Jakeypants are looking after their little baby (pirate) cousin Zara with the help from Nanny Marge. And, as everyone knows, Pirate Babies are a LOT of work so ship shape me hearties and set sail with this tale of perils on the high sea...er, back garden.

Agooo* as my 7 year old daughter would have said when she was a baby!

  • which means she's really enjoying it and lending her voice to the part of baby Zara Grin
Reebs123 · 09/02/2017 18:02

Thanks Mumsnet for the book! We're loving it so far. My 6 year old says it's interesting & funny. The baby reminds us of my younger daughter aged 18months!

Reebs123 · 14/02/2017 15:32

We whizzed through this delightful book. Jakeypants & Marge the not-so-sensible-babysitter had us in giggles. A nice book for younger children. There's are 3 stories: Zara the pirate baby comes to visit, a trip to the swimming pool & Uncle Desmond gets married. My 6 year old DD read it easily and found it funny.

Thank you Piccadilly Press & Mumsnet for our copy of this book. It was read enthusiastically by my 8 year old daughter (and by me) - I think it would work equally as well being read aloud for those not yet independent readers. Brilliantly written stories about what has got to be the world's funniest babysitter, full of appropriate humour and it really made her chuckle out loud as she read it. Wonderful illustrations too. All in all, a delightful book, perfect for 6-9 year olds and we rate it 4.5/5.

Nanalou · 18/02/2017 18:02

Thank you for this book, Marge and the Pirate Baby is split into three really funny stories and the illustrations are brilliant and bring the story to life. Read this book to my 6 year old niece when she visited recently, she loved so much it went home with her.

Thanks for the great book Mumsnet. My 7 year old who doesn't like to read really enjoyed the 3 shorter story format and it was perfect to co-read with him. His favourite story was the lost treasure one, especially when the baby was revealed as the treasure thief with a nappy full to the brim! Likeable, funny characters and short, well paced stories. Perfect for young readers.

My 6 year old daughter and me read 'Marge and the Pirate Baby' together.
I thought it was very well written for children that age. It was easy to get into Jemima Button's world and to do different voices for the different characters. We loved the pictures in the book which were adding to the story. The stories (three in this book) can easily be enjoyed by both boys and girls. Both my daughter and me thoroughly enjoyed the book (my daughter said it was very funny) and we are hoping to read Isla Fisher's 'Marge in Charge' now as well. Even though I read this story mostly to my daughter, she would have been ok to read it by herself as it is not a difficult book to read (but as I needed to write a review about the book I insisted I would read it together with her). We would definitely recommend this book to other children aged 5 to 7.

DD1 (6) chose this book at the bookshop last week and it's been a great hit. She's read it to herself, but we've also read it together with DD2 (3). We were all chuckling together and DD2 particularly loved the pirate baby with the lost treasure. The adventures are fun, imaginative and full of humour. The illustrations are very good too. We will definitely be seeking out other Marge books. All in all, a fantastic book that we will be recommending.

my child hasn't read this one just yet

janeyf1 · 22/02/2017 13:05

Not only did my dc laugh out loud, it made me laugh too. It was a pleasure to share this one

TracyKNixon · 22/02/2017 13:13

My daughter aged 9 didn't put this book down and it has really made her enthusiastic about reading. She is gutted that she has read both the books in this series now and wants to find something else similar.

mooota1514 · 22/02/2017 14:50

Entertaining read full of humour and fun. Can imagine there will be many more books to come in the series with this one being the second book. Plenty more opportunities for stories in the future. Many thanks.

ICanSeeYourPixelss · 22/02/2017 15:25

Interesting and entertaining read full of humour and fun. We like the way there are plenty more opportunities for stories in the future, just the sort of books my DC enjoy reading Smile

beckyinman · 22/02/2017 19:23

This is so funny, we were all giggling away all the way through. Am slightly worried about leaving them with a babysitter in future though!

stewaris · 22/02/2017 19:31

I read this to my sons as a bedtime book. They love pirates and came over all swashbuckling. Even athough there is a fair age span they all joined in and I think bedtime became more of a riot than a quiet time before sleep.

RACHELSMITH45 · 22/02/2017 21:47

My 7 year old loved this book, would recommend!

RACHELSMITH45 · 22/02/2017 21:50

My 7 year old loved it and laughed at some parts of it. Enjoyed reading it with her too.

sbruin1122 · 22/02/2017 22:31

I read it to my son and he found it very funny .

angiehoggett · 24/02/2017 17:05

very imaginative the kids loved it

cookie09 · 25/02/2017 11:57

My 5 year old nephew loved this book and cannot wait until the next release. He laughed so much which helps with influencing young children to read. Just the concept of making it fun!

Cailin7 · 26/02/2017 13:32

This is a really fun book and has great illustrations. The shorter 3 imaginative stories is helpful for reluctant readers. Would recommend.

Scorpiostar · 26/02/2017 20:56

I intended this book to be for my seven year old daughter but my nine year old son grabbed it first! He found it very entertaining and read it very quickly, unsurprisingly. It's a nice story and would be good for emerging readers as well, it seems, as for older kids who want an easy read just for fun.

jacqui5366 · 27/02/2017 14:01

I read this with my nephew who is 9, last week. We really enjoyed the book, we could relate to the characters, and loved the animation. We particularly love the rainbow haired adventurer 'Marge' who was a character who will stick in my mind for years. My nephew loved Jemima who reminded me of him of his friend at school. A lovely book, well done Isla.
