I just read a terrible book

Really, really bad.

Woman is married and has two rude daughters who I think we are supposed to be charmed by.

Husband leaves and starts a relationship with extremely rich beautiful glamorous woman. We are supposed to believe she would be interested in an ordinary bloke with kids.

Wife burns down the house she lives in. Husband comes back but she shags his brother instead.

Then there is a whole boring subplot about wife's mother having left when she was a kid but it goes nowhere.

I am annoyed with myself for reading it as I'd read another of this authors books and it was awful. But the blurb sounded good so I thought I'd give her another chance.

So I am asking you for a synopsis of a terrible book YOU have read!

Aunt comes and visits a "country" family and convinces them to send eldest daughter to Manchester to work in a mill. Girl then gets seduced by mill owner and falls pregnant. Aunt then takes girl in until baby is born, baby is taken away and girl returned to family. Later on girl gets in a relationship with much younger man, Aunt visits again and turns out young man is the son. Girl is left alone and shunned by society and then accidentally burns her house down.

Seems to be a trend of houses burning down and awful books

mrsblackcat · 10/10/2016 22:02

She fall asleep with candles burning.

The reaction of her in laws to discovering she has done this is most calm Grin

I'm sure I read one by the same author some years back, about a woman who murdered her husband.

How does this tripe get published!?

Veggiesupremeextracheese · 11/10/2016 07:26

That's not the plot of my husband's wife! Confused

animaniac · 11/10/2016 07:28

I got a third of the way through that book op and gave up, it really was crap, I was enticed by the blurb as well. It had very good reviews!

I've read some great books recently-
Casual vacancy jk Rowling
Cuckoos calling robert Galbraith (also jk Rowling!)
Notes on a scandal and the believers by Zoe heller.

rolypolydoll · 11/10/2016 13:34

Missed the point of the thread!

mrsblackcat · 11/10/2016 13:36

No, carry on! :) I keep thinking I should read Casual Vacancy but just am put off by the Harry Potter thing!

Notes on a Scandal was good too.

Confusingly there are a couple of recent books called the husbands wife/ my husbands wife, both worth avoiding. I haven't read Harry Potter but I loved these others.

sw15mum · 11/10/2016 13:44

OP- I've read that too! Was it on a 99p kindle deal or something- I end up reading all sorts of shite due to that!

Veggiesupremeextracheese · 11/10/2016 16:51

Mrs black cat, my husband's wife was about a solicitor and had themes including incest, autism, infidelity, adoption and alcoholism in to name a few!

mrsblackcat · 11/10/2016 17:25

There must be two of the same name veggie

It was a 99p kindle deal yes - a waste of 99p!

Veggiesupremeextracheese · 11/10/2016 17:46

Ha ha, I was really confused as I have only just read my version, and I thought I must have got the whole plot wrong some how Grin
