When a small but mischievous tapir guest comes to stay with Mango and Bambang in the busy city, things soon get into a rather troublesome tangle...

I have enjoyed the first two Mango and Bambang books and I loved this one too. It looks so beautiful and the story doesn't disappoint. My two girls, aged 4 and 6, really like them all.

Thank you for sending us this book to review....
It was appealing & amusing for all the family (8yrs&6yrs&2yrs) girls & boys, a tapir is certainly a different character to read about.
The chapters were just the right length to read a chapter each night and we loved the funny story. I loved the cover and illustrations as there was a lot of discussion points and a lovely little keepsake book.
The other books have been put on their Christmas wish lists! Smile

DD loved this book, the illustrations were lovely and we read a chapter each night for her bedtime story, she came home from school saying she was looking forward to it already.

Lovely book, imaginative characters, storylines that prompt discussion and lovely simple illustrations. There is an old fashioned feel and look to it which appealed to Granny. Definitely will buy the first book in the series.

Brilliant book, son loved it!

We have loved reading Mango and Bambang - Tiny Tapir Trouble. DD is 5 so we have been reading this together as a chapter book with me reading the bulk of it and get trying a few sentences but she is looking forward to being able to read it herself as reading progresses. The stories are charming, DD can't decide which is her favourite although I think 'Seaside Rescue' might be mine! The illustrations and general layout of the book are really lovely - it really enhances a great reading experience. We've read the first book but have just ordered the second one so that we can read more adventures.

Sincere thanks to Mumsnet / Walker Books for my copy.

'Mango & Bambang: Tiny Tapir Trouble' is the third in this series of books by Polly Faber. Like the first two, it is a light, fun & humorous read. The book employs a similar presentation style as before, with a turquoise striped cover / turquoise page border design, and great cartoon illustrations by Clara Vulliamy. It is divided into 4 chapters once more. Though chronological, each chapter could very well have been self contained stories presented as a set of 4 shorter books. The book appears to be aimed at girls of primary school age, although young readers of both gender will enjoy it. It will be very appropriate just after the transition point from picture-heavy books to ones with more written text.

In reviewing the first book last year, I stated that it reminded us a little of 'Paddington'. There is a quote from ‘The Sunday Times’ printed at the back of this book stating the exact thing. The stories follow the continuing adventures of the little girl called Mango and her best pal Bambang, a tapir from Malaysia who was taken in by Mango after he had gotten himself lost. From a day to remember at the seaside, and a visit from Bambang’s tiny troublesome cousin, Gunter, to Mango’s big shot at the chess tournament.

There's a bounce in the way the text reads. Plus, it's refreshing that Polly Faber chose a slightly unorthodox animal for her central character (as opposed to the usual cats and dogs, pigs and sheep, and bears and hares that fill such books). Bambang and Mango make a dynamic duo, and the significance of friendship resonates throughout the book. Readers familiar with the characters will enjoy the latest adventures with the pair.

Such a lovely read - thank you

A lovely book. The story is
imaginative, the illustrations are fun and DD1 loves being able to read most of it herself.
Brilliant.

We just read this at my brother's house as my niece had it for her birthday (or from Mumsnet?!)
My son loves unusual animals and it went down a treat. He asked for it for Christmas. It has really lovely pictures and a heartwarming story.
I'll look into the others as I had no idea it was in a series.

baconbap · 31/10/2016 21:21
