...so why did I quiver over him as a teen, reading JC?

WHY?

OP posts:
WWWCampbellBlack · 05/02/2007 22:05

Nope, Gerrof this thread with yer Judith Krantz! She is not in the same LEAGUE as Jilly!

WWWCampbellBlack · 05/02/2007 22:05

love ya too btw Soph!

Heathcliffscathy · 05/02/2007 22:06

i'll be orf then.

princess daisy has a 12 page older woman/princess daisy scene that was formative for me...but hey....i'm a freak!

WWWCampbellBlack · 05/02/2007 22:09

No, haven't read any Judith Kranz but Ooo err at described scene! We had Flowers in the Attic being passed around when I was at school. And The Fog and The Rats. Bloody scary!

NorksBrideOHara · 05/02/2007 22:09

Favourite Jillyisms:

Tony B "I see the devil has cast it's net"
Rupert "If the holes in his net were as big as your mouth, we'd all escape".

Didn't Miss Lovett-Standing live with another female teacher in a two-bedroom house with a spare room?

Ha ha ha!

Heathcliffscathy · 05/02/2007 22:10

flowers in the attic and ESPECIALLY my sweet audrina are SICK SICK SICK

but tittilating if you are 12.

WWWCampbellBlack · 05/02/2007 22:11

I don't remember Lovett-Standing but ha ha ha!

WWWCampbellBlack · 05/02/2007 22:11

Soph, I don't remember ANYTHIGN about them except that they were, indeed, titilating when you were 12 or something. Bet I'd recoil at them now.

pooka · 05/02/2007 22:15

Rupert may be a Tory but he voted against the death penalty being brought back - to the disdain of Maggie. And of course, he was then invited by the Labour party to be an impartial Minster of Sport (he declined, despite being touched by the gesture).

I have read them far too much!

Chessie - yuk. Into masochism. Ended up running off with her step-son.

Janey - was it her who shagged Kevin Coley in a helicopter? Or was that Chessie and Bart Alderton?

Still think Rivals was the best.

tortoiseSHELL · 05/02/2007 22:16

Oh stop, I'm going to have to reread them, I threw away all my trash novels, but couldn't part with my jilly coopers. Love the bit where Taggie calls the firebrigade cause Rupert's burning the stubble in the fields, and they arrive and find him playing nude tennis with Sarah Stratton. And the bit where he finds Taggie under the table at Patrick O'Hara's birthday party and kicks the drunk out of her bed and tucks her up for bed.

To Perdita 'Stylistically, you're not too bad. YOu've got most of the shots. Shame you're so fucking useless at deciding which one to play when!'

tortoiseSHELL · 05/02/2007 22:16

Chessie and Bart were in the helicopter.

pooka · 05/02/2007 22:18

"cock fault. Your cock was at least 10 inches over the line"

turquoise · 05/02/2007 22:20

Rivals definitely the best - though I really identified with Fen in Riders.

There's a book out of 'selections' from Scruples, JC, Judy Blume etc, called "Dirty bits for girls" or similar - edited by India Knight I think! Might be quite amusing from a nostalgia pov.

fishie · 05/02/2007 22:20

oooh sophable have you read scruples? i got that second hand in bognor in 1983.

WWWCampbellBlack · 05/02/2007 22:23

Oooh, hang on, now you say 'scruples' I tihnk I might have read that! Rings a bell anyway. Right, must go to bed!

Scruples - was that about old Bostonian who opens a shop? Philomena... Wilhelmina... married lots of rich chaps who conveniently died. Am I talking about the wrong book entirely?!!!

WWWCampbellBlack · 05/02/2007 22:26

omg, is that real? Has she REALLY got grandchildren called Lysander and Jago?!

NorksBrideOHara · 05/02/2007 22:27

Thank god they've changed the shoe on the cover of Rivals. Cameron Cook would never have worn the cheapo, short-heeled red thing on my copy. Gah!

fishie · 05/02/2007 22:28

hmm no wonder she's so gushing about her editors and secretaries.

fishie · 05/02/2007 22:29

yes yes she is ugly (fat) duckling who turns into swan and runs a big shop.

MrsJohnCusack · 05/02/2007 22:34

fancy having such a great discussion whilst I'm in bed you MEANIES

I know some of the people credited in the gush for Apassioniata. I did love it though, especially when they went on tours - reminded me of my orchestra tours...

MrsJohnCusack · 05/02/2007 22:37

oh THANK you for the website
fantastic

yes, I remember she really DOES have grandchildren called that. her children (who they adopted ages ago) are called Felix and Emily.

NorksBrideOHara · 05/02/2007 22:45

tortoiseSHELL · 05/02/2007 23:50
