There are advantages to being in the trade, so to speak...just had an urgent e-mail from The Bookseller!

I have ordered my copy from Amazon. Also had that email saltire! Just bear in mind, they add on delivery costs so it is actually £11.24.

I remember buying my hardback edition of HBP a few weeks after publication from Tesco and it cost £6, so if you can wait a few weeks, there will definitely be cheaper copies to be had.

Wait a few weeks? Are you mad woman? I have waited long enough for this book without waiting any longer. I shall order 2 from Amazon, one for me, one for the Ds, then i won't pay postage, and i can read it in peace

now you all know that

... its a KID'S BOOK don't you

Blandmum · 03/02/2007 10:43

I am semi planning a party for dd and friends on the day. I'm going to send them a 'timetable' on 'aged' parchment, and do potions, and magic writing and some quiditch at the local park. THought we could watch one of the films....history of magic lesson!

DumbledoresGirl · 03/02/2007 10:44

saltire, 2 books won't get you free postage will it?

Twiglett · 03/02/2007 10:47

From "Is it just me or is everythign shit?" by Steve Lowe & Alan Mcarthur

Adult editions of children's books

If you must follow the adventures of a public school conjuror, even though you are a) notionally a grown adult, and b) have probably been to university or at least to 'big school, why attempt to conceal the fact behind a different cover, as if fellow passengers will assume after a casual glance that you're actually reading Thomas Mann in the original German?

Just because the train on the front is black and white rather than bright red, it doesn't suddenly become a harrowing Booker prize-winner called Harry Potter and the Genocide in Rwanda.

How do the dinner party conversations go?

"What are you reading at the moment?"
"It's called The Very Hungry Caterpillar. It's about a caterpillar who gets really hungry - he just has to keep on eating stuff."
"Ive read it. Marvellous."
"Oh, don't tell me how it ends!"
"No, I wouldn't. But it's ... well, it's pretty moving. Oh look, I'm hogging all the Hula Hoops..."

saltire · 03/02/2007 10:48

Yes, it's £15 for free postage, but actually now i think about it, things with free postage sometimes take slightly longer! Hmm, even with postage it will still work out cheaper than a store. Although there is a Waterstones near here and a Borders, which may have been good to go along to, but we probably won't be living here by then

shosha! Don't say that! I pre-ordered from Amazon only this morning!

TBH, it is worth paying a premium just to be sure of getting the book on time. I am not up to going out at midnight to buy from a shop!

saltire · 03/02/2007 10:51

I don't mind where i get it from as long as it's here so i can sit and do bu**er all all day!

saltire · 03/02/2007 10:51

All the books i have ordered on the past have been delivered on day of release. I know what you mean about DVds shosha, i sometimes get them the day before they are released

Well, I am committed to the HP book, but I will try to remember play.com for other things. Thanks for the recommendation.

Ha! It is selling there for £13.99! So amazon is still a better price....

But still worth knowing as I imagine sometimes you can check out both and find that play.com has it cheaper.
