There are advantages to being in the trade, so to speak...just had an urgent e-mail from The Bookseller!

woohoo!

asked the lady serving in whsmiths just this morning when it would be out and she didn't know

WeaselMum · 01/02/2007 13:19

ok, quick question for those of you that pre-order - does it arrive on the actual day? Or does it get sent out on the 21st and arrive after the weekend? Cos I won't be able to wait that long!

Iklboo · 01/02/2007 13:21

Last time it came on the day. They have it in the warehouse to release

expatinscotland · 01/02/2007 13:21

I pre-ordered from Amazon, Weasel, and it was at mine for 8AM on the day of release - which was at midnight.

saltire · 01/02/2007 13:21

It arrives on the actual day! Well all mine have so far

ShowOfHands · 01/02/2007 13:22

Oh I think she's going to be gargantuan. This assumption based solely upon two facts: I am enormous; the baby is 97% gingerbread.

Surely if I do resort to using her as a book rest, through the process of osmosis she will absorb the story herself, non?. Start her young. In fact on my return to work I may just put her on the bottom of a book trolley and allow the literary environment to influence her cerebral development.

excellent, thank you - will be ordering mine shortly then!!

Marina · 01/02/2007 13:25

Weeelll, ds has tin ears despite being subjected to lots of soothing Mozart (for me not him). I have a photo of him incandescent with baby rage at being played Soave sia'il vento. So I would not get your hopes up.
I do hope you do not subscribe to the view prevalent in HE that all you have to do to absorb a journal article is to photocopy it SOH ?

ShowOfHands · 01/02/2007 13:30

Oh that's universal across all HE institutions is it? Cripes I thought it was just our lot, along with borrow books, line up alphabetically on shelf and never open but somehow absorb contents.

florenceuk · 01/02/2007 13:34

Last time I went down to Tesco's in the morning and then instructed DH to look after DS while I lay on the couch and read it - was pregnant though so had an excuse - I wonder if I can get away with it this time...

I have to admit that I think the general quality of the books has declined a bit over time - I wonder what this one will be really like?

WeaselMum · 01/02/2007 13:45

ooh I think they've got better with each one - you'd never guess how complex and interesting the story would become if you'd only read the first two books imo

I actually have mixed feelings about this one coming out because I don't really want it all to end. I know I'm a bit sad.

florenceuk · 01/02/2007 13:56

I don't know - the Goblet one was completely illogical (why go to all the trouble to get Harry to win a tournament when you could just turn a textbook into a Portkey) and the next one was just full of Harry stomping around SHOUTING and not listening to anybody. The last one was somewhat better but I haven't been tempted to re-read it.

DumbledoresGirl · 01/02/2007 16:09

florenceuk, nooooo I disagree. They get better and better. each is better than the last, with the exception of Book 2 which I found rather boring.

I can't wait to read the last one. I have panic attacks that something will happen to JKR and we will never know the true ending, but I suppose if they have a publication date now, it must be written by now?

I am worried though that I won't be able to read as fast as you lot (I can't stay up all night, even to read the last HP book - too old!) but I am scared I will come onto MN and see the discussion in full flood. Can we have a rule that we don't talk about it for at least 3 days after publication? No, I thought not!.......

Oh and to FrogPrincess. I misread your post. Um, well, it hardly compares with HP, but I am well and truly hooked on some novels by Bernard Cornwell. I know, I know, cheap holiday trash, men's stuff too, but it is actually the sort of stuff I really like. HP is an anomaly for me.

Tortington · 01/02/2007 16:13

THANK GOD! no more harry potter - yay.

DumbledoresGirl · 01/02/2007 16:14

PMSL custardo. The books might be coming to an end, but the films will keep coming, and the discussion on MN will be endless!

Tortington · 01/02/2007 16:16

we need a emoticon.

no prolly not good on depression threads.

KTeePee · 01/02/2007 16:16

I will have to wait until dd has read it first before I get a look in (unless we get two copies!) Luckily she is a fast and obsessive reader so I won't have to wait too long!

Am i right in thinking 21st July is the start of the school holidays? We usually pre-order from Amazon but maybe we'll queue at the local bookshop this time.....

Blandmum · 01/02/2007 16:19

Can't belive they are missing the 7/7/7 for book 7!

Didn't like book 6 much. Did like book 5, harry was just like every kid of that age, a bit of a PITA!

Book 4 is my fave

DumbledoresGirl · 01/02/2007 16:20

Book 6 was best because Dumbledore had the biggest role in it of any of the books. I am really a Dumbledore fan, not a Harry fan, can't you tell?

RosaLuxembourg · 01/02/2007 21:57

DD is delighted because it is her tenth birthday on 22 July. She has persuaded me to let her stay up till midnight and go to Waterstones to collect our copies. She then plans to read all weekend (assuming it is as long as Order of the Phoenix!). Since the film of OOTP is out on 13 July it should be a very Harry birthday for her!

saltire · 03/02/2007 10:02

Had an email from Amazon, saying the book is going to be £8.99! That's a big difference in price, as most bookshops will sell it for around £16.99, which was the price of the Half Blood Prince.

Miaou · 03/02/2007 10:09

Harumph. That's my due date! I shall be too huge to go and stand in a queue by then

saltire · 03/02/2007 10:11

Get it delivered from an online place Miaou, then if due date passes , you have a good excuse to sit with your feet up and read it!

Miaou · 03/02/2007 10:13

Yes, just reading back through the thread, that is deffo a good idea it seems! (I was thinking we would be a week behind everyone else when we received it)
