Alex rider is great - better.

TheDullWitch · 30/01/2007 16:21

Alex Ryder is a bit less densely written and more accessible.

Ds has insisted on buying Stormbreaker at the school bookfair and I am a bit disappointed with it, given that A Horowitz is a seasoned writer. Just a bit pedestrian.
But then Charlie Higson was in the Higsons...
Presumably you are all Fowled out...

So no Artemis Fowl or Worlds of Chrestomanci yet then? AF is great for children, am getting a bit hacked off with it myself

Itcouldhavebeenbeetroot · 30/01/2007 16:24

ds3 read them when he was about your sons age. None of mine have really got into young bond.

I think htere are some younger Horowitz Groosham Grange or something

quite a lot of fart-related comedy in Artemis Fowl. Ds also can't relate to HP but likes every syllable of Eoin Colfer.

Itcouldhavebeenbeetroot · 30/01/2007 16:24

I think Artimis Fowl is too old - ds3 struggled with those and I hated them

2nd one in Stormbreaker series quite grown up imo (not read the first) Has drugdealing and drug manufacture withing first few chapters (read some with a friend's 9yo the other night). I want to read it all now though, to find out what happens!

PandaG · 30/01/2007 16:29

Like Artemis Fowl too - yes it is fantasy, but lots of humour, very cleverly written.
