Which author's books would you buy unreservedly, knowing that you will definitely enjoy ?
My choice would be Deborah Moggach.

A big yes to Bill Bryson. Also Ben Elton.

GinnyMcginface · 12/07/2016 22:12

Lianne Moriarty although there was one (the Last Anniversary) that wasn't exactly duff but wasn't as good as the others. Pre-ordered the newest one already.

Liane moriaty
Penny Vincenzi
Mark Edwards
Currently working through all of Rachel Abbott

I used to love Marian Keyes but her last few novels have been duffers.

sohelpmegoad · 15/07/2016 19:56

I like William Boyd, always good and thought provoking, different topics

and also Kasio Ishiguro but his last The burred giant I found very hard going, so I guess that he doesn't count

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/07/2016 19:58

Jane Austen - everybody else has let me down at least once, unless they only wrote one novel.

YvaineStormhold · 15/07/2016 20:01

Ann Tyler
Nick Hornby
Sarah Crossan
Chimamanda Ngozie Amamanda
Neil Gaiman

Iain Banks (but not Iain M Banks), although sadly there will be no more.

Douglas Kennedy

Formerly Marian Keyes, but I didn't really like her last one.

Christopher Brookmyre

Ramsey Campbell

AdderDingAdderDong · 15/07/2016 20:14

None that I can think of have done it for me every time. Minette Walters and Terry Pratchett are the closest.

CocktailQueen · 15/07/2016 20:17

None all the time!

Sue graft on - but her last two books have been mediocre

Bill Bryson - but his last book was grumpy, curmudgeonly and he had lost the humour that was in previous books

Dick Francis - but afte this wife died his books were nowhere near as good as they had been before...

Lee child - but after reading several Reacher books, they all merge into one. ... Same with Harlan Coben novels.

Robin Hobb. Always. I haven't read much of her work as Megan Lindholme (she has two pseudonyms and writes fantasy under Hobb and more traditional sci-fi under Lindholme) but I've enjoyed everything so far.

Patrick Rothfuss, although he has only written two novels and a novella.

Another for Bill Bryson.

Stressie · 15/07/2016 20:39

Penny Vincenzi (or however it's spelt). Love those blockbusters each year on holiday. Only time I read them.

I like most Stephen King but there have been some duff ones I've not enjoyed.

Not sure if I enjoyed the Will Trent book by Karin Slaughter - Triptych? Do later ones pick up?

NeedaDiscoNap · 28/07/2016 22:54

Neil Gaiman
Kate Atkinson

I was going to say Margaret Atwood too but then realised I love half of her books and hate the other half!

Daphne du Maurier

Willa Cather - haven't been disappointed with any of hers.

HermyOne · 05/08/2016 13:03

Stephen King is the most hit and miss author I've ever read

I haven't found a consistent author yet. In fact, when I find a book I like I actually avoid other books written by that author to avoid disappointment

Chelazla · 05/08/2016 14:07

Jo Beverly and M C Beaton!
