Because it's a timeless romance decorated with a humour and punctuated a satire that never grow old.

pillowaddict · 24/04/2016 23:16

I love Lizzie Bennet's strength and reasoning, her loyalty to her family, when faced with the declaration from Darcy. It was the first, and best, of the stomach churning and emotional romance novels I've read over the years. Jane Austen took the traditional 'boy meets girl' and turned it on its head. I'd love to read a modernisation of this as I love the story in every form.

prettybird · 25/04/2016 08:18

I simply love the skilful depiction of the range of characters. Austen was brilliant at that.

Belo · 26/04/2016 08:51

It has everything you need from a book in it; the will they get together / won't they, the humour, the scandal and humour. You can't help but feel good and smile when you read P&P.

leilajay · 29/04/2016 01:07

Love Pride and Prejudice, It's not just about two people blindly falling in love. It's about two people, very well aware of each others obnoxious issues and flaws, yet still falling head over heels in love. A masterpiece.

MsMarple · 29/04/2016 03:19

I love reading P&P because it is so cuttingly funny - which you don't really get from the TV adaptations.

I love the mix of characters in Pride & Prejudice, with so many different perspectives on how happiness can be found. I found the various subplots unexpected, unlike many modern novels, but mostly I fell in love with Liz's seemingly modern attitude and how she didn't do what was expected of her by society or her mother.

Susangilley7 · 08/05/2016 08:43

What is not to love? Family saga with love intrigue and plotting!!!!

starlight36 · 10/05/2016 12:00

A strong and discerning female heroine - (hopefully) gets the happy ending but with a partner who respects her opinions. The family dynamics is brilliantly described, also the predicament of women at that time and the pressure on them to find a 'good' marriage match.

lizziem4 · 15/05/2016 22:40

I think Austen clearly illustrated at a time when women didn't even have the right to vote or inherit, that you could find an equal of mind and that the greatest partnerships are balanced on each seemingly having opposite strengths and weaknesses and no-one is ever perfect!
