My copy of the The Water Horse arrived today!!! anyone else started it yet?

USAUKMum · 13/12/2006 14:02

I've checked online and my library has it -- so am planning to go down on Fri or Tues and get it.

oasis · 14/12/2006 07:28

Have just seen this, would love to join too please. Have always wanted to join a book club!

whenevilgotstuckupthechimney · 14/12/2006 09:35

oooh can i join please? i read absolutely anything, both kids and adult books. am reading artemis fowl at the mo but do read grown up things too!!

quanglewangle · 14/12/2006 09:48

Can I play too?
I am in a reading group set up by the local library, which is great as we are a really mixed assortment of people, just like mn. Don't think you get quite as good a mix when a group is started by a group of friends.
I'll toddle off to the library now and see if they have got it.

quanglewangle · 14/12/2006 10:28

Got it!!!

dizzydo · 14/12/2006 10:51

Please can I join? I will have a go at anything although I too give up if I don't get on with it. This will spur me on to taking my late library books back!

kandi · 14/12/2006 11:56

Please could I join as well? I'm half way through Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, so will have to get through that before starting The Water Horse, lol! Just had a look on Amazon, The Water Horse looks pretty good

USAUKMum · 14/12/2006 12:11

Won't get to the library this week (mumbling as she obessively checks again that the book is still on the shelf)

mozhe · 14/12/2006 12:11

I'll join too,( if ok....), as have just moved to France in last month, love bookclubs and belonged to several in Uk and am planning on joining a french one,( hopefully if I can find one....hope they do bookclubs, otherwise I'll have to come back to blighty !!). but reading with an english group would be brilliant too.....The Waterhorse it is then!!

GruffalosChild · 14/12/2006 12:50

Can I join too? I need to get back into reading books. Only ever seem to manage to read bits of the paper these days.

Katsma · 14/12/2006 14:59

Can I be in your gang too?! Am currently alternating between breastfeeding and nappychanging. Am struggling to read the newspaper due to two hands being required. Can I request that only 'one-handers' are chosen!?

Gruffalo - sounds from your username that you have got into a 'lightweight' reading rut!

Will order 'The Waterhorse' now.
Am I safe to log on again before Jan 16th? No-one's gonna do a spoiler message are they?

sophiewd · 14/12/2006 20:07

Just strated reading it. How are you getting on with jonathan Strange. I read it when I was pregnant.

ImMcDreamyingofawhitexmas · 15/12/2006 06:24

Yes great to have you all on board. Good point Katsma - shall we have a rule - no thread spoilers until the review date. If anyone else has any tips to make the book club run smoothly then please share them with us.

We are also trying to think of a name for ourselves - any suggestions gratefully received. Happy reading - I've just finshed the first chapter

ImMcDreamyingofawhitexmas · 15/12/2006 06:30

Just noticed we're on "discussions of the day" on the home page. Mumsnet have refered to us as "Bookworms" - potential name? What do you think?

kernowcat · 15/12/2006 06:38

Can I join too? Although I seem to have a killer thread aura about me. Maybe I'll change my name. Library here I come.

MistletoeGolightly · 15/12/2006 10:20

What a great idea! I would love to join if that's ok...? I will read almost anything from Georgette Heyer to Ian McEwan (including the cornflake packet 3mum!) Oh, except I couldn't finish the Da Vinci Code. Or quite a lot of Salman Rushdie.

The Waterhorse sounds great - on Amazon it says "so explicit until recently an editor might have toned it down" so it will make a bit of a change from DS's Shirley Hughes picture books.

kandi · 15/12/2006 10:20

sophie, am really enjoying actually which surprised me as am not usually into magic and stuff like that. But it is sooo long...

When we do the book club on Jan 16th, are we going to set a sort of time, say 11am or is it going to be more ad hoc on the day? Bookworms for a club name sounds good to me!

TALLULAHBELLE · 15/12/2006 18:30

Hi,
Would love to join. Am in a real life book club - usually we never actually finish the book, just meet in the pub and chat about everything else. Now that I'm pg, the pub thing not so much fun so would actually like to READ something!

DarrellRivers · 15/12/2006 18:49

Right, prevaricating over, have requested book at library so hopefully should be in soon.
Looking forwards to a good read, particularly as am getting Booker short list for christmas as well, i'm going to be busy.

SpicymulledSheraz · 15/12/2006 19:12

Would like to join, too if i may. I am a Rl bookworm, but am bookless at the mo. Don't know if i will get chance to read The Waterh orse in time, but will check back in on 16/01/07 to catch up on the next one. We could do with a rolling list of members and maybe chhose a book in order of joining? I am not a member of a Rl club, so not 100% sure how it all works.

DarrellRivers · 15/12/2006 19:16

I reckon McDreamy is our moderator currently, as she started it all, but rolling list sounds good, and then taking it in turns sounds good

ImMcDreamyingofawhitexmas · 16/12/2006 08:00

Yes I'd go along with that - good idea! I've not time to do it at the moment but happy to come back later today and compile a membership list.

Liv321 · 17/12/2006 14:20

Oh, me, me! I want to join too!

I'm good at starting books, but peter out if it doesn't grip me... always thought that a bookclub would help me stay focussed!!

Not sure how these things go, but if you review on 16 Jan, is that the day you start next book? Or the day you choose it?? Just though it would make sense to agree next book on, say, 10 Jan so all can get it in time for next reading session.

Or did I just make something simple complicated

Either way. Hurray!

StrangeTown · 17/12/2006 14:25

Hello - I'll try and get the Waterhorse for my holiday and then check back in on the 16th.
