is anyone interested in forming one with me? I was in one years ago and loved it. Anyone interested - not avirtual one, one where you meet up and chat and have a glass of wine? Is this the right place to post?

Lio · 25/11/2006 19:46

Bump for you - I am in a book group already (Stevenage library) but might be persuaded to defect to yours for the wine

ska · 26/11/2006 18:13

great! wine seems to be the whole point really! didn't know the libary did one, mine doesn't. ottakers used to but now they are waterstones the staff aren't sure whether they can do one now. would you be interested - I'm SG3 so near. know anybody else?
by the way what does 'bump for you' mean, I keep seeing it on mn?

OP posts:
Lio · 26/11/2006 19:09

Hi ska, 'bump' means a post from someone who can't necessarily answer your OP (Original Post) but is helping by keeping your thread in the 'top 60' list, which is what most people look at.

With regard to knowing anyone else, I realise this sounds mildly pathetic but actually I don't have many friends at all in the area There are a couple I can think of who might be interested, one of whom I'm seeing tomorrow (we go to the same bf support group). She's quite an enthusiastic soul, I'll let you know what she says (she's in Stevenage too).

ska · 27/11/2006 12:05

thanks, Lio that'd be good! I know what you mean about knowing people, so not at all pathetic!, I sometimes feel that as I am a WAHM and forget to get out and about! That's why I thought an actual bookgroup would be lovely.

OP posts:
faeriemum · 27/11/2006 12:37

im in stevenage too...would be interested in helping out

ska · 27/11/2006 15:30

faeriemum, are you? so that's three of us then. How many do you think we'd need - 6? must be able to come up with a couple more people. my thought was to take it in turns to host it and choose books that are avilable at the library unless waterstones would give us adiscount. I'll call them and ask!

OP posts:
faeriemum · 27/11/2006 15:35

sounds great...i'll ask a couple of close by Mn'ers to see if they're interested too.
i dont drive, am in chells manor area.

ska · 27/11/2006 15:59

well waterstones don't answer but i'll be there this week i am so will ask. not driving should be ok if you knowother mners bewteen us we can give lifts. i'm outside stevenage myself but not far.

looked up a website about setting up agroup and there are loads of tips and if Lio comes along she will have tips too. Was in one for ayear but we fell apart after 2 members had new babies!

OP posts:
Lio · 27/11/2006 19:46

So now we are three, looks like this will happen which makes me
Friend at bf group was only interested in theory - likes reading BUT all her 'spare' time goes on her Open University course. However, I have my ear to the ground and did meet a mum in Knebworth so if I see her around and about I will nab her. Watch this space.

hey this is great! I will also ask around and maybe someone else will see this thread and join us. v excited

we ned to think baout venue for first meeting: should we be safe and have it in public place or you can come here and my husband and kids will chaperone?!

OP posts:
ska · 27/11/2006 20:11

and i can't spell or type obviously but am otherwise quite organised

OP posts:
Lio · 27/11/2006 20:35

Ooh, had no idea BUMP was an acronym, CF! Btw, swift hijack: you seen the thread about where to go with kids in Italy? Thought you could help.

And Ska, I vote for bravery and coming to your house - at the mo dd comes everywhere with me as I am bf and she doesn't have a set bedtime yet, so she can chaperone too

Quite exciting news (in a dull kind of way): we have a new sofa arriving on Thursday, so when it's my turn to play hostess we can sit on sofas and discuss earnestly issues of subtext and imagery. Or we could just talk about whether ot not we liked the front cover

In fact, I should CAT you and faeriemum and we can swap real names

Lio · 27/11/2006 20:42

ska and faeriemum, have CAT-ed you both - getting exciting!

ska · 28/11/2006 20:10

anyone else in north herts want to join us? we're very friendly

OP posts:
ska · 08/12/2006 13:03

come on! there must be some more MNers in North Herts who'd like to meet up, glass of wine, discuss a book once a month! Meet up next Friday at a cafe in Stevenage to plan the group/get to know each other.

OP posts:
catsmother · 10/12/2006 15:24

Can't believe I haven't seen this thread before now.

Am in North Herts (very North Herts, but can drive) and a bookaholic so am definitely interested.

Am presuming you're all planning to meet up in the evening ? .............. 'cos bringing my 3 year old DD along will NOT be conducive to any sort of book related chat.

Are you planing to meet at each other's houses, or in local pub/cafe type place ?

Obviously I missed the planned meeting last Friday but would like to know more. Sorry I can't CAT anyone.

ska · 10/12/2006 19:18

Hi Catsmother
we actually had to rearrange the planned daytime meetup for various reasons and are planning it for this friday instead. 10 am in Costas in Stevenage. this is to plan it and get to meet up. kids ok! For the group itself definitely evenings in each other's houses, taking it in turns (assume kid free unless you're bf). if you fancy it leave another meassge here and i will give you my email address. great to find another bookish soul! where in N herts?

OP posts:
Lio · 10/12/2006 20:33
