I was picked by MNHQ to review this book, which I received for free. This review is in my own words and reflects my true opinion."

Review previously posted on 5th June : I have never read anything by Simon Kernick before and I have to say I enjoyed this book. Usually I work out the plot very quickly and solve the mystery so it was nice to find a book that kept me guessing to the end. I liked the way it was not a predicatable 'happy ever after' novel which is so unrealistic in gritty crime thrillers. So on the basis of this book I would hunt out other books by this author, and many thanks for sending me a copy!

Thank you so much for sending me the book. I've never read Simon Kernick before but this was a such a page turner, from the very first chapter, and kept coming back to read more. It kept me gripped and I enjoyed the developments of the story but would have liked more embellishment of the ending - it felt like it ended suddenly and that it wasn't realistic that someone would give up seeing their child so easily. However, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would read more from this author. Thanks mumsnet!

Thank you for my complimentary copy. Unfortunately I found the story uninvolving and far-fetched. The book was badly written and the central characters were unlikeable and underdeveloped. Violence and torture make up a large part of the book and the central characters, far from engaging sympathy, show a lack of morals and an unpleasant side to their natures which put them on a par with the criminals that they are trying to defeat. Not for me.

Thanks for sending me this book.
Hadn't read a thriller for a while and was hooked by this one. Very easy to read - fairly interesting characters - will look out for more by him to take to the beach this summer. Will also pass the book to my Mum, as she has more time to read than me. Thanks again

Thanks for my free copy. I'm not a huge thriller fan although I have enjoyed a few Jo Nesbos. I'm afraid I found this book very average and formulaic and I wouldn't be tempted to seek out any others by the author. Like others above, I really disliked the main character which didn't help!

Thank you for my copy. I thought this was a good beach read and fun, more character development would have made it memorable. I liked the fact everything wasn't tied up neatly at the end.

Thank you for my free copy. I haven't read it yet, however, my husband has. He has read many Lee Childs books and got in to this book straight away. It must have been good because he read it really quickly (in a week!! which for him is like lightning!!). I'm going to save it for my hols as I like a bit of fast paced action xx
