Literary shame is a powerful thing - if you've ever nodded sagely while your friends discussed Bleak House or chuckled knowingly about the The Wizard of Oz - the film is the same thing isn’t it? – you'll know what we're talking about. But now we're giving you the chance to 'fess up! Tell us which Puffin Classic you have never actually read, and you'll be in the running to win the entire set.

The Puffin Classics are back, and with a bold new look – twenty brand new covers for the classic tales, from Huck to Dorothy to Alice to Peter. One lucky poster will receive all twenty, while 5 randomly-selected runners-up will win a copy of their never-read tale.

Here's the full set list:
The Call of the Wild, Tom Sawyer, The Wizard of Oz, King Arthur, The Jungle Book, Black Beauty, Huckleberry Finn, Anne of Green Gables, The Secret Garden, The Odyssey, A Little Princess, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, The Wind in the Willows, Treasure Island, Heidi, Peter Pan, Little Women, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

This competition is now closed. And the winners are:

Belo - full set of Puffin Classics
happysouls - The Call Of The Wild
Punkatheart -Heidi
Miisty - Tom Sawyer
Pigeonpea - Huckleberry Finn
kohl - Wind In The Willows

Thanks for all your contributions, we'll be in touch with the winners shortly

I haven't read most of them but most notably Anne of Green Gables. I thought Black Beauty was pretty dull, loved The Secret Garden, couldn't get into Little Women at all and enjoyed Huckleberry Finn at school

I studied literature at uni and took a children's fantasy literature module. Got a high first for my final assessment exam, writing about Alice in Wonderland and didactic fiction... but have I read it all the way through? Um... no. Never. I still feel ashamed thinking about it now Shock

Butteredparsnips · 01/05/2015 21:49

This list list has made me realise that, although I have read most of these books and especially loved Heidi and Little Women, I have never read The Jungle Book. And hadn't thought to. Until now.

Im going to get it.

tompob · 02/05/2015 11:14

never read the Jungle Book... sadly after seeing how disney retold the story I never fancied reading it

Stoodles · 03/05/2015 17:41

I have read the Wind in the Willows. My grandfather used to tell me the stories from it, but when I read it myself, al the best chapters wee missing

hazelangell · 03/05/2015 20:43

I've only read about five of them but really enjoyed the books I did read. You can't beat childrens classic stories in my opinion, I don't know if it's the innocent times they were written in or just the fact that they make me feel nostalgic but I love them now as much as I did as a child.

whitbyranger · 05/05/2015 16:41

I have read nearly everything on the list, but have never read The Little Princess.

SuzfromSoton · 06/05/2015 13:30

I haven't read Little Women or Anne of Green Gables.

Pico2 · 07/05/2015 23:55

I haven't read most of them, but feel worst about Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. I really should read it to DD, though the Disney film has already got to her.

katieskatie82 · 09/05/2015 09:06

I've never read treasure island! Although I might read it to my 7 year old son soon!

aesops · 09/05/2015 14:58

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

cherry49 · 09/05/2015 20:14

I've read most of the books. Anne of Green Gables was one of the first books I ever read, and still have a copy of it today. Also loved reading Little Women. Must admit, I've never read The Odyssey or The Little Princess.

wef1984 · 09/05/2015 20:32

Anne of Green Gables

CaminanteNoHayCamino · 09/05/2015 20:55

The Call of the Wild, Journey to the Centre of the Earth (or have I?), King Arthur, Treasure Island.

TiggyCharlotteElizabethDianaD · 09/05/2015 22:10

My sin?

I once bought a dictionary no no letter Ds in as it was really cheap. I figured I only need that letter about one twenty sixth of the time, and as the dictionary was about 5% of normal price it was a bargain.

I've read the Alice stuff, halfway through Tom Sawyer, and I've bought Treasure Island.

goose1964 · 10/05/2015 09:11

the odessey is the one I most regret not having read, I have honestly read most of them
