I've also won a copy just waiting to receive it I've put off buying a new read since I found out I'd won :)

Amma2010 · 19/03/2015 09:57

Received my copy. Thank you.

It is a truly gripping story and I must admit I found it hard to put the book down. It made me both smile and cry. Very beautifully written and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Would definitely recommend it.

Thank you.

Received my copy a couple of days ago. Wasn't sure if it was really my thing and validation by the Daily Mail and the Sun on the back cover didn't encourage me. Then I read the lengthy bio at the back, complete with exclaimation marks and was even less sure. Am 55 pages in though and must admit it's rather good, so so much for my predjudices. Will report back when I have finished reading!!

sillylily · 25/03/2015 14:40

Thanks for my copy. What a great read! I love police, detective, mystery thrillers and this book had me turning the pages until well after I should have put the book down. It finished with the answers at the end and tied up the loose ends. As well as that, the characters were believable and well developed and the emotional aspect of a missing child was explored from a number of viewpoints - all pretty harrowing. I normally wouldn't have picked this book for myself but am really glad that I had the chance to read it and will now try other books by Susan Lewis

Really enjoyed this book even though it is not my usual type of thing. I thought that the characterisation was good. I thought the dialogue was a bit laboured i.e, too much explaination of what Andee was thinking all the time but overall a very enjoyable read and a well put together story. A likeable family also. Thanks mumsnet :)

alialiath · 30/03/2015 23:19

Now I know where the copy of Behind Closed Doors came from lol. Currently reading it just now, and will post a review when I've read it. Thank you.

Yasmin1 · 31/03/2015 13:48

Wasn't sure what to expect as I have not read any of Susan Lewis's books. I really loved the book. Very quickly into the book, you are caught into the story of Sophie and Andee and it is hard to put the book down. You get caught in each of the characters personality and without giving the ending away it is very believable story.
Definitely would recommend this book. Thanks

SadieSimmons · 31/03/2015 16:44

I have never read any books by Susan Lewis nor was I aware of her which is why I requested a free copy, so thanks mumsnet!

Like Albert above I was a bit discouraged by the endorsements and found it a bit disjointed to start with but once 'in' I found it a quick page turner.

On the surface this is a book about a missing teen, Sophie, who vanishes after a family row. The story unfolds from DS Andee Lawrence's point of view and this helps drive the story as she is a believable and likeable character. She has to contend with the investigation as well as her own family situations both past and present.

Without giving too much away I respect how the author used various characters to highlight the prejudices that tend to occur when a young girl goes missing and nearly all the threads are woven together before a moving end.

I'm pleased I read it and I would read others by Susan Lewis, I'm certainly passing it on.

I've just finished - I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I've left my review in the book review section.
Can I just say thank you to Mumsnet and these book giveaways? I've read several books from these giveaways and really enjoyed them - and most are books that I would never normally pick up. Hopefully I'll be chosen to review more! Smile

lindarumsey · 05/04/2015 08:43

Thanks for giving me a chance to read this book. I found it slow going at first, as I am used to reading fast paced thrillers, but once I got involved with the characters I couldn't put it down. Prejudices were explored as we can all jump to conclusions when a teenage girl goes missing. I found the ending very moving, perhaps because I too have a teenage daughter.
I will definitely be reading more books by Susan Lewis in the future.

jackiekatu · 18/04/2015 23:02

Thank you for the book, i read it in 2 days , lovely read , looking forwards to read more books from the same author .

Garton · 19/04/2015 07:54

left my review was so pleased to get this I might just have to re read at later date.

sylwright · 27/04/2015 20:27

Like others I found this book slow at first but then found myself reading into the early hours as I wanted to find out what happened next. From about half way through I couldn't put it down. I loved all the different threads of the story.

I love the fact I get to read books that I wouldn't normally choose, and most of the time I really enjoy them, as I did with this book.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 30/04/2015 21:34

Sorry for the late review - I took this on holiday and ended up reading it on the plane on the outbound journey and passing it on to another holidaymaker to enjoy.

I really enjoyed this book, the writing style was easy to read and believable. It was a little predictable, but not too much, and was a really good holiday read. It was a real page-turner, which I wasn't expecting when I received it.

I thought the detective's romantic storyline was the weaker side of the plot; I enjoyed the actual whodunnit story much more. It almost felt as if the author felt obliged to flesh out the policewoman's story, but she actually wrote the main plot much more convincingly.

I would read more of this author as a holiday book.

Thank you very much for the book.

daimbardiva · 04/05/2015 20:59

Thanks very much for my copy of this book. When it arrived, I wasn't convinced it was my type of thing, and now I've read it I still think that I'm afraid. Although the story was gripping enough I didn't feel that it rang true - certain aspects of it seemed to build up and then resolve out of nowhere, and I felt that it didn't really fulfill its potential. It had several interesting themes running through it, but I didn't think that these were made the most of and I felt that the subplot about the detective's personal life seemed shoehorned in.

I was surprised to find that the author has written more than 30 other books and has been really successful as I didn't think the quality of the writing was great, and some of it was quite clumsy.

I did find the passage describing Andrea's reaction to viewing the body in the mortuary very moving though, and beautifully written, and wished the rest of the book had similar depth.

I'm unlikely to seek out other books by the author - I'll probably pass this one on to my mum as Ifeel it's more aimed at her demographic.

wilsonbarali · 09/09/2015 09:59

Thoroughly enjoyed the book, Susan has the knack and ability to bring out the best in any story and is not afraid to tackle subjects that are heavily outlined in the public media.

The characters are believable and although sometimes a little slow in places, once you get into it, it's hard to put down.

I've read every book of Susan's to date and I would have no hesitation in recommending her to other reader's as her knowledge and characters are all identifiable.

Another good read from one of my favourite authors.
