Claire appears to have it all - the kind of life you read about in magazines; a beautiful cottage, three children, an accountant husband and her own flourishing vintage textile business – the perfect home! But underneath the idyllic façade, all is not quite as happy as it seems...

Just received my free copy looking forward to snuggling down with it later

I was lucky enough to receive a copy of 'A perfect home'. I read it over the weekend, finishing it last night. I enjoyed it. It's an easy read, with likeable characters and a plausible storyline. Parts of the story were a bit cheesy, but that'll be the old cynic in me! I would recommend this as a beach/holiday read, not too taxing and with enough twists and turns to keep you interested. Thanks for my copy.

BearAusten · 23/03/2015 13:29

Thank you for my copy. The plot is somewhat predictable after a certain point. The characters are not particularly engaging. I must admit I found Claire somewhat irritating and wanted to give her a good shake at times. However, it is an easy, light read and would be a good book for a holiday.

FawnDrench · 24/03/2015 22:20

Just finished this rather predictable but very easy to read book. From boa constrictors and sidecars to squashed cherry tomatoes, it's all there, along with pretty lace and chintz, a downtrodden wife, a domineering husband and vindictive mother in law.

Wholly unbelievable but it's a whimsical tale that nevertheless brought me several smiles and I found I began to care about at least a few of the characters after I'd passed the first 200 pages.

Thank you for my copy. As posters have said above, it's an enjoyable easy read. I do wonder what will happen to the main character when the Cath Kidston/shabby chic look goes out of fashion! I will look out for other books by this author and whilst I won't re-read this one, I will pass it on to a friend with my good recommendation.

minsmum · 28/03/2015 17:48

Thank you for my copy it was an easy read and I finished it very quickly. I didn't like it very much because I didn't like it the main character. She was so passive .I just don't get how someone can set up her own business whilst running round after her perfect children , keeping her house immaculate and generally being a domestic goddess , never a cross word to her family . Then suddenly this.
It just wasn't believable for me , however I do know friends who would love this book

Just received my copy, will start reading when finished my current read. Looks like it will be a bit of light relief- perfect for the Easter break.

Yasmin1 · 02/04/2015 19:14

I enjoyed the book. It is an easy light read. I liked the Claire's character. As one of the readers above mentioned that Claire is passive. But there are plenty of women who are stuck in that type of marriage she is in and become quite compliant. I liked that she becomes very self sufficient and with her determination she succeeds in her business and becomes the person she wants to be. Good read.

MummyBtothree · 03/04/2015 11:16

Thank you for my copy!. It was a very easy-going read although I cant say it is one of my faves. I found the main character rather 'bland'.

susanterblanche · 08/04/2015 08:08

Thank you for my copy, I really enjoyed the book, a lot more than what I originally thought :-) It was an easy read, I really liked the main character and did not find the story too predictable.
I happened to read an article in the hairdresser recently about the author and it was interesting to read that she based it on her own experience.

Jossykaye · 12/04/2015 20:01

Finished! It's enjoyable enough. I quite liked Claire and as I live in an affluent rural area I can identify with the plethora of middle class crafters that have sprung up! Although she managed to pull money out of thin air for things like rent on a shop and managed to buy vintage fabric on ebay for quote 'next to nothing'. Really?!
Yes, it's very predictable- right from the first chapter it's obvious how the book will end and some of the characters are pure stereotypes, for example, Sally the wisecracking overweight friend. But it's a decent, heartwarming story, just not really for me. I did like the subplot about Claire's mum and Brian though. Their story would make a good novel too!

Jenni2legs · 13/04/2015 09:45

Thank you for my copy of this very easy to read book. I do feel like it had been written ten years ago, shabby chic is over (it's all about scandi minimalism), and the main character drinks chardonnay, which is practically a crime now Grin

I read an updated version of a Sweet Valley High book once and they'd changed all of the 80's brands to new car models and Iphones etc, it feels like this book needs the same treatment.

MummyBtothree · 18/04/2015 17:51

Thanks for my copy! I loved it, quite 'old school' in a strange way, a very easygoing read!
