Has anyone read this? I was awake until 4am because I was so gripped by it! It's brilliant!

You're welcome. Smile

imaginative · 03/02/2015 10:05

Just reading it now. So far I am loving it, even though it is told in the first person present. I'm getting used to first person present now as so many modern books use it.

Thurgood · 03/02/2015 11:55

Oh, definitely going to add it to the list now Smile

Twiglet11 · 03/02/2015 16:12

I couldn't put it down. Well worth a read.

madasamarchhare · 03/02/2015 19:15

Southeastdweller · 15/02/2015 18:52

I'm happy to have finally got this from my library today Grin. Will report back in a few days time.

Redglitter · 15/02/2015 19:12

Got it on my kindle wish list hoping the price will drop soon

twostepsister · 16/02/2015 11:15

Nearly half way through this and definitely a page turner thanks for the recommendation President

They have the hardback of Girl on the Train in Asda for £7.00 at the moment, if that helps anyone.

I read it recently and really enjoyed it.

Of that twitter list, I've read The Silent Wife, Before I Go To Sleep, and Elizabeth is Missing.

I thought they were all good, so I will be looking at some of the others now. If I had to rate them I'd put Elizabeth is Missing as my favourite of the three, followed by Before I Go To Sleep and then The Silent Wife.

For books on the same lines I'd also suggest Harriet Lane's books, Alys, Always and Her, both of which I enjoyed. I preferred Alys to Her.

I've also recently read Don't Stand So Close by Luana Lewis, which was good but filled with triggering incidents.

And I've just finished The Ice Twins by SK Tremayne, which was okay but I think it lacked a bit of thinking in the plot and had a distinct "punish the bad mother" tone.

AliceLidl · 16/02/2015 22:35

And I forgot, How To Be A Good Wife by Emma Chapman is a similar sort of book. I really liked it

And The Story of You by Claire Kendal is another one.

PastPerfect · 16/02/2015 22:40

optimist I also listened to it on audiobook and totally agree none of the characters were very like-able.

It was enjoyable but certainly not brilliant...and some bits just didn't make sense

storminabuttercup · 18/02/2015 11:13

Well last night I came here to get recommendations on what to read so I read this, half before bed and woke up super early and had to finish the rest before work! Excellent isn't it?

fredfredsausagehead1 · 19/02/2015 21:20

I really enjoyed the book and it was a page turner but I found it so predictable and basic, it was entertaining but the characters weren't that well developed and it was a bit like an easy watching soap. Nice easy read though Smile

twostepsister · 20/02/2015 10:27

Just it finished it and have just bought the new S.J Watson - Second Life

mollyonthemove · 20/02/2015 10:31

I saw this in the library yesterday and having heard so much about it, was really tempted! I had three other books though so will definitely get it next time.

APlaceInTheWinter · 20/02/2015 10:31

It was easy to read but I thought the ending let it down tbh .

mollyonthemove · 20/02/2015 10:33

Oh Elizabeth is Missing is totally unputdownable Grin

Southeastdweller · 20/02/2015 21:44

Finished it today. It was a very easy read and at times very exciting, but ultimately unmemorable.

DuchessofMalfi · 21/02/2015 06:29

With you on that one southeast I thought the writing was good but I don't really understand what made it a potentially award winning novel. Didn't seem really special.

popflos · 22/02/2015 18:13

only time i have ever asked for a refund on amazon, fast and gripping but just not written well enough. if like girl on a train, try I let you go,
similar but better.

APlaceInTheWinter · 24/02/2015 21:24

I liked I Let You Go but I thought one of the final revelations was a bit ott and it impacted on my view of the rest of the novel.

DameEdnasBridesmaid · 24/02/2015 21:32

I've read Girl on a train over the weekend. Agree OP, it's fab, I loved it. I couldn't wait to get home from work on Monday to finish it. Totally believable, the author has experience of alcoholism, either herself or very close family/friend.

TheEagle · 25/02/2015 22:28

Just finished this book now, really enjoyed it.

Great pace and a good storyline.

AlpacaMyBag · 13/03/2015 09:14

About to read it now.
