Enid Blyton wrote them.

Malory Towers was the name of the school! I haven't read them for ages, I wonder if they are still in my Mums loft.........? Would it be embarrassing to read them at my advanced age?

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 13/10/2006 11:21

How could you not have read these when you were a child? Were you a 'St Clare's' person instead? Or just not into those sorts of stories? Darrell Rivers is the heroine, and there's also a 'DarrellRivers' on MN, who must also be a fan (unless it's MaloryTowers in disguise).

cupsnakes · 13/10/2006 11:22

hilarious laugh at LTH. Where have you been?

NOMurDErousPLUME · 13/10/2006 11:24

Must be those hormones

NOMurDErousPLUME · 13/10/2006 11:25

Maggie Gyllenhaal

Penelope Cruz

LadyTophamHatt · 13/10/2006 11:25

Honestly...never read a single one.

reading wasn't my thing when I was little. I used to ride on the parcel rack of my brothers bike all summer, looking for newts at the motorbike track or my dad would give me an old thremostate out of his Gas board van to take apart.

If my mum was able to get a dress or skirt within 10 yards of me it was an achievement. I remeber crying hysterically once because she made me wear a dress to my own birthday party. I sulked for the entire party.

Reading really wasn't something that I did!!

I loved Malory Towers books. DS1 has just discovered my collection of Famous Fives. By the way - who wrote the Milly Molly Mandy books - they weren't Enid Blyton were they?

LadyTophamHatt · 13/10/2006 11:27

you're not asking me are you megalegs???

OP posts:
MegaLegs · 13/10/2006 11:27

Have you popped in from the " if you were Gay threda" NDP?

NOMurDErousPLUME · 13/10/2006 11:28

pmsl, megalegs

MegaLegs · 13/10/2006 11:30

No LTH - you should read them though - they are excellent. (Malory Towers that is) You've got boys like me havn't you? They might not be interested in the adventures at a girls boarding school.

MegaLegs · 13/10/2006 11:31

girls' (apostrophe alert - is that right oh pedantic ones?)

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 13/10/2006 11:37

Milly Molly Mandy is by Joyce Lankester Brisley, MegaLegs - DD has them but I find them quite difficult to read to her, because the language is just a bit too archaic in places. Sweet, though.

MegaLegs · 13/10/2006 11:46

Thanks Jackie NHJABS - I found the same with Beatrix Potter " Anna Maria said she thought that it was of no consequence; but she wished that Tom Kitten would hold his head still, as it disarranged the pastry." Yes, quite.
