Human Croquet by Kate Atkinson
Also my loo-book is The Labyrinth, kate Mosse, v lightweight imo but know the places so enjoying it.

MsBionic, it's because of what others had said that I persisted with 'Kevin'. Finished it last night but I'm not sure what to think of it.

I'm now reading The Sunday Philosophy Club by Alexander Whatsisname. Very light and enjoyable as I know Edinburgh a bit.

Found the Ukrainian Tractors decidedly did not live up to the hype.
Have more to say but don't want to spoil it.

JoolsTOOOOOOOoooooooooo · 05/10/2006 19:04

recently finished Dead Simple by Peter James, past-paced and a page turner. Also Harlan Cobens No Second Chance also recommended.

JoolsTOOOOOOOoooooooooo · 05/10/2006 19:05

Fast paced!

Dreamcatcher, Perfume is one of my favourite ever books. And I'm always astounded at how good the translator must be.

sophiewd · 06/10/2006 11:52

I am sorry but I thought Perfume was one of the most boring books I ahve ever read. Definitely didn't live up tp the hype

DrFrankenZooey · 06/10/2006 11:57

I am another Perfume fan.

Am reading mostly non-fiction at the moment - "How weaning happens" to reassure myself that it really will happen in our case, plus new Nick Drake biog "Darker Than the Deepest Sea", and dipping in and out of a very rude book Dp bought me called "Menage". It is filthy

Sophiev73 · 06/10/2006 11:59

I'm still reeling from 'Fingersmith' by Sarah Waters - my MIL lent it to me, saying 'oh there's some lesbian stuff in it...' Now I keep picturing her reading it... I really liked it though! Not just for the 'lesbian stuff', really good writing...oh..bother.

Just finished re-reading The Colour by Rose Tremain which I loved. I am now 5 chapters in to 'case Histories' by Kate Atkinson. Really good so far, had me hooked from the first page. Just taken to buying books from ebay as I get through so many. Any recommendations?

beetroot · 07/10/2006 15:10

anyone know these?

I have just started them and she is great

Pruhoohooohoooooni · 07/10/2006 18:14

Sheraz, Case Histories is fantastic, I loved it (though unbearable in places). I had it as a talking book and the actor doing it was great (Susan Jameson I think). I am now listening to Human Croquet, same writer and reader, and really enjoying it.

Beety, have read all the Stephanie Plums, they are great. Have you tried Carl Hiaasen? Less lightweight, still thriller-ish but not much, really funny set-ups. Reminds me in a way of Janet Evanovitch. "Lucky You" is hilarious.

Lilymaid · 09/10/2006 13:39

Alison Lurie - Truth and Consequences. May be a bit middle aged for most of you as it is about a 50 year old man with backache!

nikkie · 10/10/2006 20:29

Spin Cycle by Zoe Strachan, only just started it though so can't comment much yet!

lambchop2 · 13/10/2006 23:00

The Power of One - Bryce Courtney, a friend recommended it and i'm about half way through. Enjoying it but it was a bit unbelievable in places at the start. Made me cry about the bullying of Peekay, the boy. The best book I've read in ages was The Shadow of The Wind - Carlo Ruiz Zafon, amazingly evocative of Spain and full of twists, couldn't put it down. I, too, am a Perfume fan, but read it ages ago so can't remember much. Pillars of the earth by Ken Follett is a hefty but terrific read.
