Anyone else disappointed with Gone Girl ending?

I was hooked and then the ending was terrible.

It was not an ending.

I felt like the last 50 pages were pretty pointless.

Also Amy stated she had been attacked by being hit with the puppet and yet claimed she managed to put them in the shed to be found as a present?

How would she have time to do that after being hit by one and kidnapped?

I would like to see andy mcnabs nick stone in film as ling as Tom cruise wasn't playing nick. He's already ruined Reacher for me.

OhMyArsingGodInABox · 04/10/2014 18:31

It's a spoiler because all the reviews say the ending of the film has been changed so readers of the book have no idea what will happen. Except it looks like it's the same ending.

Oh well. I'd still like to see it.

NorthWitch · 05/10/2014 09:09

Don't know why my post was singled out for spoiling - anything I've said appears further back in the thread - try reading the whole thread before commenting huh? Surely anyone worried about spoilers would have stayed away from the thread?

OhMyArsingGodInABox · 05/10/2014 09:11

The thread was about the book.

You were discussing the film.

OhMyArsingGodInABox · 05/10/2014 09:12

In fact, much of the thread is about us wanting to see how they've changed the ending for the film.

NorthWitch · 05/10/2014 10:01

Not everyone was talking about the book. If you don't want spoilers then best to stay away from a thread talking about the ending of Gone Girl containing comments from posters who have seen the film. As I said all comments are further back in the thread - try reading it before making nasty comments.

Southeastdweller · 05/10/2014 12:16

NorthWitch Of course you've spoiled the film for some people and I'm glad I didn't read your comment yesterday and the one by OhMY before I went to see the film last night.

Truelymadlysleepy · 05/10/2014 14:05

Glad it wasn't only me who was disappointed by the ending. I actively disliked both the main characters but I feel cheated.
Might watch the film to see how Hollywood improve it.

IsabellaofFrance · 05/10/2014 20:35

I think the casting of Rosamund Pike as Amy is flawless, she is exactly how I imagined Amy would be. Ben Affleck as Nick, not so much.

I found the book hard work.

IPityThePontipines · 06/10/2014 10:45

I was thinking more January Jones for Amy, but I can see Ben Affleck as Nick

Naicecuppatea · 06/10/2014 11:25

I read the whole thing but didn't like it at all. Didn't like the characters. The ending was ok, probably the best part of it, as someone has already mentioned.

ilovereading · 06/10/2014 13:08

It ain't great litricha, but I still enjoyed it for a quick gripping read...Nick was a weak character, but at least he was vaguely likeable. The character of Amy (a great achievement, IMO) is a terrifying construct - so controlling, cunning and narcissistic - a real nightmare of a woman! I was left really wishing that Nick could escape from her, but wondering how, as she had seemed to block every possible exit for him in the most Machiavellian way.

Annie54321 · 06/10/2014 17:49

I thought I was the only person who didn't like this book. I am an avid reader and read almost every day. This is the first book I just couldn't keep reading. I thought it was awful and after struggling to read half this book I skipped to the end (which is something I have never done before) and I thought the ending was so disappointing. How this book became a No.1 I do not know!

Supermam · 06/10/2014 18:24

I wanted retribution!!! She was ghastly, but I suppose they deserved each other. It's been a while since I read it - did the end leave a possibility of a sequel, or did I make that up?!

IsabellaofFrance · 11/10/2014 15:41

I saw the film last night and really, really liked it.

I think the film makes more of the fact that Amy is a much worse character than Nick. I don't think he deserved to spend the rest of his life with her, he was bad, but she is a horror!

SageSeymour · 12/10/2014 12:42

Killing myself over BOF saying ' why would you do that? ' in a shocked way ...

Let me tell you a story. My friend BOF recommended a book to me and I downloaded it. Didn't get round to reading it for a little while and then one day sent her a text saying ' ooh I'm going to read the blah blah book now! Just settling into it'

Back comes the response .. ' oh yeah, that's the one where the mother did it isn't it ? '

I didn't bother reading it Angry

I couldn't get into GG the book but saw the film last night. Thought it was pretty rubbish

mmack · 13/10/2014 00:21

I finally saw the film tonight and it's very enjoyable. The only thing I didn't like was the actress playing Andie-way, way too glamorous compared to the character in the book. The ending was nicely ambiguous. Rosamund Pike was excellent. I'd say she is a sure thing an Oscar nomination.

I will never live that one down Grin
