Anyone else disappointed with Gone Girl ending?

I was hooked and then the ending was terrible.

It was not an ending.

I felt like the last 50 pages were pretty pointless.

Also Amy stated she had been attacked by being hit with the puppet and yet claimed she managed to put them in the shed to be found as a present?

How would she have time to do that after being hit by one and kidnapped?

She was attacked by the missin handle after putting the box in the shed.

We jus did this in book club and pretty much decided that they deserve each other. Pair if dysfunctional fuck wits.

CoteDAzur · 23/09/2014 08:26

I thought the ending was unusual - one where the sociopath wins for once. Given their characters and her complete dominance throughout the book, it was quite credible, as well.

snozzlemaid · 23/09/2014 21:28

Hated the ending and both of the characters. Dysfunctional fuck wits is spot on.

Itscurtainsforyou · 23/09/2014 21:29

Apparently the ending has been changed for the film Smile

SomethingVicardThisWayComes · 23/09/2014 21:30

i read this a while ago and im afraid i could see the ending coming a mile off....still. i enjoyed the book.

fizzly · 23/09/2014 21:34

YES I totally agree. Ending is awful - felt like the author got bored and bailed out of writing it properly. However, my DH entirely disagreed with me - we argued about it for about a week after I finished reading it!

Cheshireblue · 23/09/2014 21:51

Me too. I loved the book and was waiting for an explosive ending but it just flopped. Felt very deflated!

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 23/09/2014 21:53

I just wanted them to kill each other earlier on. Book would have ended sooner then. Smile

OhMyArsingGodInABox · 23/09/2014 21:54

I thought the ending was perfect.

BunnyLebowski · 23/09/2014 21:55

Worst. Book. EVER.

LittleBairn · 23/09/2014 21:56

I loved it, the ending was spine chilling.

kickassangel · 23/09/2014 22:28

I also hated how her character flaws seemed to make it OK that he cheated.

And she wasn't as clever as she thought or she wouldn't have had her money stolen and run to Desi.

SailorEverRose · 23/09/2014 23:45

I just hated how there were no consequences to her actions. Killing Desi, pretending she was raped etc

I didn't feel sorry for Nick and he at least got punished to a degree. I found him so weak towards the end.

She will spend the rest of her life pretending to be someone else and playing a character and he will live in fear.

I was pretty disappointed with the ending. And the beginning. The middle was lousy too.

I only read it because it was easy to read and I thought it must improve given all the plaudits. What facile claptrap. It wasn't even clever, and it clearly thought it was. Cannot understand why everyone said it was thriller of the year etc.

ICantFindAFreeNickName · 24/09/2014 00:14

I read it a couple of years ago and can't even remember the ending !!! Now the film is coming out, there has been so much hype about how great the book was, I thought there must have been something wrong with me. Your comments have made me feel so much better.

catsofa · 24/09/2014 00:28

Yes I was kind of hooked and hated it at the same time.

kickassangel · 24/09/2014 01:42

Everyone at my book club said the same. We also thought it completely implausible that the police would just drop the case given how wealthy Desi was.

Anyway she could be BFF to Noelle
Still

notaflamingclue · 24/09/2014 06:26

I got halfway through and gave up. I can't read a book and not give a toss about the characters.

SkaterGrrrrl · 24/09/2014 20:27

Yes I disliked this ending (and all the characters) heartily!

Southeastdweller · 24/09/2014 20:32

I was disappointed that horrible bitch Amy got away with it. I quite liked Nick and was hoping he'd kill her.

Not a great book but G.F made me dislike one character like I've never experienced before when reading a book so that in itself is an achievement.

BaconAndAvocado · 24/09/2014 21:52

Very disappointed! I too wanted Amy to meet a grisly end or go to prison.

Really want to see the film though. Over all, I loved the book.

pictish · 24/09/2014 21:56

I thought the ending was perfect really. They deserved each other, and really...horrible people get away with all sorts of despicable shit without anyone ever finding out about it.
If anything, the ending was more realistic than any other would have been.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 27/09/2014 19:46

I agree with Pictish, not sure how else it could end really. I hated the book and have no idea why it was so popular when her other two books were so good especially Sharp Objects. The ending was the only good thing about GG imo.

Viviennemary · 28/09/2014 19:51

I read a good few pages and thought I'm not ploughing through this lot. And went to the end. Glad I didn't persevere with it.

mmack · 28/09/2014 20:25

I liked the ending-it tied up all the loose ends and was true to the characters. However I don't think it was all that original. I'm thinking Gillian Flynn might have read Scott Turow's Presumed Innocent at some point.
