Because they were so good and rich and generally wonderful.

I'll list three, most of which have also appeared in the "books you gave up on" thread.

Wolf Hall and Bring up the Bodies (counts as one choice)
All the Pretty Horses

A fine Balance

Don't do it so much now, but at times in my life when I was less happy I used to do it all the time. At the moment, I have books that I love that I re-read every few years, to keep them fresh.

Wish I had read this thread earlier. I went to the library earlier and had no idea what to pick. Four of my favourites are 1984, Children of the Dust, Battle Royale and Until You're Mine.

The Crimson Petal and the White. I adore that book, and have given several copies away as gifts for friends Smile

Iain Banks's The Crow road
Catch 22
Camus's The Stranger.

Must re-read Blind Assassin

Life of Pi because once you've read the end you can't not re read it with new eyes.

Got99problems · 08/10/2014 13:21

Very excited that the Blind Assassin gets so many mentions on here - just starting it for the first ever time Grin

Ouroboros · 08/10/2014 14:07

I read Pincher Martin by William Golding for an essay (a long time ago) and really struggled with the level of detail etc and found it pretty dull, then read the last page... and immediately had to read the book again and revise my opinion!

PetulaGordino · 08/10/2014 14:10

i have never ever done this. i don't know why. i have gone back to books a few years later, but never immediately read it again
