Wish I had read this thread earlier. I went to the library earlier and had no idea what to pick. Four of my favourites are 1984, Children of the Dust, Battle Royale and Until You're Mine.

Life of Pi because once you've read the end you can't not re read it with new eyes.

Very excited that the Blind Assassin gets so many mentions on here - just starting it for the first ever time

I read Pincher Martin by William Golding for an essay (a long time ago) and really struggled with the level of detail etc and found it pretty dull, then read the last page... and immediately had to read the book again and revise my opinion!

i have never ever done this. i don't know why. i have gone back to books a few years later, but never immediately read it again
