Because they were so good and rich and generally wonderful.

I'll list three, most of which have also appeared in the "books you gave up on" thread.

Wolf Hall and Bring up the Bodies (counts as one choice)
All the Pretty Horses

A fine Balance

The Blind Assassin.
The Woman in White

IntellectualLlama · 16/09/2014 20:15

Same as you, Wolf Hall and Bring Up The Bodies.

Great Expectations. Then started working my way through the rest of Dickens.

Was sorely tempted to when I recently finished The Sunne in Splendour recently, but restrained myself as I have loads of other things waiting to be read.

CatherineofMumbles · 16/09/2014 20:29

Another one for WH & BUTB!

InternetFOREVER · 16/09/2014 20:33

The Secret History. I think this is the only one I've done this with as an adult.

Thurlow · 16/09/2014 20:38

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell was the only book I finished the last page and immediately turned back to the first page again.

choccyp1g · 16/09/2014 21:29

GeorgeHerbert. I read the Blind Assassin twice in one go too. (thinks: there should be a special word for that kind of twice.....cover to frontispiece?)

Rebecca
The Poisonwood Bible
Perfume
The series of Tales of the City -for sheer escapism.

bigbadbarry · 17/09/2014 22:20

The secret history for me too

sydlexic · 17/09/2014 22:23

Never, because I would know what was going to happen.

Forcibly, we (my class) got to the end of Great Expectations, heaved a huge sigh of relief and then our English teacher said in her Italian accent..."Open the book at page one girls" and we had to start again. I could've pulled my hair out. She did this to us three times in a year.

She was lovely though :)

penguinpaperback · 18/09/2014 12:32

Tea with Mr Rochester by Frances Towers. A wonderful collection of short stories.

ArsenicFaceCream · 18/09/2014 12:34

Yes, The Blind Assassin. That's he only one ever.

UptoapointLordCopper · 18/09/2014 12:43

Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell.

AS Byatt's Angels and Insects.

CoteDAzur · 18/09/2014 14:26

Cloud Atlas.

CoteDAzur · 18/09/2014 14:27

I will definitely read Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell at some point, too. I haven't read it again immediately because I want to forget it a little so the re-read will be just as pleasurable as the first time.

UptoapointLordCopper · 18/09/2014 14:39

Talking about Jonathan Strange makes me want to read it again. But no, I'm too busy rereading the Earthsea books...

TheWanderingUterus · 18/09/2014 14:44

The Secret History
World War Z

GeorgeHerbert · 18/09/2014 19:24

Might have to read The Poisonwood Bible again now! And The Blind Assasin......

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/09/2014 21:23

There are a very few which I really did read and then turn immediately back to page one and read again. They are:
The last Harry Potter book
The last Dark Tower book
A Clockwork Orange
The Lord of the Rings, the first time I read it
The Glass Bead Game

FriendlyLadybird · 19/09/2014 00:10

The Good Soldier

hackmum · 19/09/2014 08:57

I'm amazed people do this! I'm always keen to move onto the next book. Think the last time I did this was as a teenager. Am impressed with Wolf Hall - I enjoyed it but was quite glad to get to the end.

Thurlow · 20/09/2014 21:14

Blimey, Friendly, I don't think I've ever met anyone else who loves The Good Soldier too. It's quite exciting! I did it for A-levels but I still reread it every few years. It's just like the most perfectly constructed novel.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/09/2014 21:31

Not read, "The Good Soldier" for a very, very long time. Might be due a re-read.

Postchildrenpregranny · 22/09/2014 19:11

Must re read The Luminaries as I might understand it now I know what happened !
I rarely re read . There are so many good books out there there never seems to be time But I do re-read Little Women and Georgette Heyers when ill....

angie95 · 23/09/2014 09:07
