Family sagas / long series

Right. I have exhausted all the family saga type series I know of. What can I read that's similar to the Cazalets, the Clifton Chronicles, the Forsytes, anything by Penny Vincenzi, the Emma Hart books, Outlander etc etc. Inspire me! I want easy reading, absorbing, long and ideally multiple volumes....

Oh yes, definitely the RF Delderfields.

Not family centred, but I've just begun the Giordano Bruno series by S J Parris. First one is Heresy. Set in Elizabethan England, this one in Oxford. Rich in historical detail, and very enjoyable.

Would you compare it to CJ Sansom and the Shardlakes, Duchess?

Would love something as good as those to get stuck into.

RonSwansonsLushMoustache · 11/07/2014 10:01

Not sure if A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth qualifies as a family saga but it is long and absorbing with multiple characters. I loved it.

Another vote for the Delderfield collections

Horseman Riding By (3 books)
God is an Englishman (3 books
The Avenue stories (two books)

I have read them over and over. In fact probably due for another go Grin

I can recommend the Century Trilogy by Ken Follett as mentioned above. The first is set around the time of WW1, the second, WW2 and the third is due to be published later this year I think.

RonSwansonsLushMoustache · 11/07/2014 10:13

I've just bought the first and second books of the Century Trilogy for 99p and £1.79 (kindle versions). They look fantastic, thanks for the recommendation.

7days - I haven't read the C J Sansom Shardlake series yet - on my tbr list. I have heard these ones do appeal to Shardlake fans, and are well written. Can't wait to read on later today.

Lovely to have them to look forward to, Duchess. I think there is another one coming out in the Winter, that would make 6 in the series.

toldmywrath · 12/07/2014 17:23

Oh yes to the RF Delderfields as well-I'm due another re read of them -
I absolutely loved them all.

snozzlemaid · 12/07/2014 17:36

I'll second Poldark.

Popping back in to say thank you - just finished the 36th and most recent Morland book, loved Now for the other suggestions on the list...
