Family sagas / long series

Right. I have exhausted all the family saga type series I know of. What can I read that's similar to the Cazalets, the Clifton Chronicles, the Forsytes, anything by Penny Vincenzi, the Emma Hart books, Outlander etc etc. Inspire me! I want easy reading, absorbing, long and ideally multiple volumes....

How about Susan Howatch? Penmarric, Cashelmara, The Wheel of Fortune and The Rich Are DIfferent and it's sequel Sins of the Fathers?

Have you tried Jodi Picoult novels - a bit similar but each one takes a theme and gives different characters' perspectives of it? Not very heavy but easy to read Grin.

Have you read R F Delderfield's novels. A Horseman Riding By trilogy, for example. Or To Serve Them All My Days, and many more. Should satisfy the need for long family sagas Smile

I'm almost embarrassed to suggest this, but have you ever read A Woman of Substance and its sequels? It's Barbara Taylor Bradford so a bit cringey but I've read them a few times and love them! Very epic family saga type stuff.

Is that The Century Trilogy you are referring to Five? Are they a good read?

Yes, I have never read any of his before, they were OK, lots of historical facts I didn't know and a lot of intertwining families. He can't write a sex scene thoughGrin

One of my favourite novels is Middlesex - a very long book which is different from all the family sagas and absolutely captivating. By the author of The Virgin Suicides, but this is a much better novel.

Wilbur Smiths Ballantyne series, set in Africa 19tj/20th century are on a Kindle offer. I loves these as a teenager and have recently read again!
